Tales of the Ketty Jay by Chris Wooding

Doing well Sir, how about yourself?

I definitely think you'd enjoy Retribution Falls, its got plenty of action, and mayhem, with some distinctive characters thrown in there. It also felt like a very fresh/new direction for fantasy. I know a lot of people have compared it to Firefly, but I've never seen that show, so i can't speak to that, all I can say is that I personally loved it.

I am definitely going to buy it then. Just finishing up Mieville's The City and The City which is outstanding.

Sorry about the music blog post. Work got crazy for awhile. Quite a bit going on. Just wanted to pop in briefly and get a few recommendations. Take care dude.

Nice, I cant wait to hear what you think.

If you get around to that post, send it out to me. I'd love to use it for the blog. No pressure though.

I finished The Black Lung Captain last night and thought it was great and just as good (and maybe better in some spots) than Retribution Falls. I thought the interactions between Frey and Dracken were superb.

Starting RF today. Looking forward to the story. Will definitely read this thread and check back in with a post when I'm done.

Is it really only 10 more days before The Iron Jackal comes out? Geez, that snuck up on me. Hoping to get the email from bookdepository that its released for shipping really soon! Can't wait, should be a great read.

Someone I know in Germany has already had their copy from Amazon a full two weeks early. So you might get lucky ;)

Hope y'all like it.

Well, even if it was shipped tomorrow, I probably wouldn't get it by the 20th. Which is okay, since I'm still working on the Braided Path books (yes, I'm slow). But damn, I'm still jealous of that guy in Germany...

Oh, and I've had no luck finding a hardcover of Ret Falls. I think you should send me one of the probably dozens that you have hidden away in your basement...;)

As far as I know, that's still TBC. I think they may be waiting to see how the first two do before committing further. But there's a big international book fair on this week, so probably have news on it soon.

If only I had a basement. They just clutter up my flat instead. A while ago a radiator broke and I ended up propping it up with a pile of my own books, they're like Minecraft blocks as far as I'm concerned ;) Sadly none of them are RF hardbacks tho, no idea where they got to. I probably built a wall out of them and plastered it over...

I haven't seen any advanced reviews of The Iron Jackal at all. Were no copies handed out?

Anyways, tomorrow is the big day! Depending on when I finish up with the Braided Path trilogy, I'll be getting into this one. Hopefully this weekend, before the splurge of big release video games starts (if you don't count Batman AC). Should be good!

I'd say the first two did well:)

The Black Lung Captain was a great continuation of the characters adventures.

I think Werthead has an early copy of The Iron Jackal

Copy arrived Saturday here... but now part of a TBR pile... trying to get to it asap. :)

What could possibly take precedence over bucklepunk awesomeness? ;)

Great review, Rob. It's cool to see that most people around here that have read this series have enjoyed it quite a bit.

LOL. Oh, I know.... and I have been waiting awhile for it! - but there are some who have been waiting longer and given me a longer turn-round time.

Not complaining - and I'm sure when I get to it it will be awesome - but it's going to be a little while.

About 90% of the way through The Iron Jackal. So far, I'm liking it a lot, enough to say I think it's the best of the three to date :)

Just means I'll get to enjoy it before you do (maybe). And yes, I'll rub it in. ;)

That's good to hear, Wert! That makes me even more excited to get to it. I'm going to have to hurry up and finish up Braided Path (which has been awesome as well). Can't wait for the review, let us know when it is up.

It looks like i picked the right time to start Retribution Falls. I will now have 3 books in this setting to read without waiting too long between them. I'm also into the second volume of Braided Path.

Have you enjoyed The Braided Path? I'm getting near the end of the last book myself, and I've found it to be a great trilogy. The second book did get a little slow in places, but I never felt there was too much unnecessary "bloat". The third book has been quick moving, and so far probably my favourite of the trilogy.

I have only finished the Weavers of Saramyr, but I can already tell the series will be one of the highlights of the year for me. There's a lot to like : the oriental setting, the magic system, the characters so far. Maybe I could do with less politics.
I am also pleased by the change in tone from big epic in Braided Path to campy adventure in Ketty Jay : I like it when an author is able to leave one favorite setting and try something new (I'm thinking Erikson here)
