New Post Your Progress Thread

27519 words for Into the Abyss. I managed to close the book off. I simply don't have much else to write, and figure down the road I'll do more but I think much like the other books, I fulfilled the need to write the story. I also think I need to give them a win, because before they'd always win.

1582 words for Into the Breach. This is a 5th Kommando book I sort of started months ago, but focused on Into The Abyss. Anyway, it's a continuation of the plot from To The Stars, so we'll see how it turns out. I think I can make it longer than most 5th Kommando books, so hopefully that'll happen

Good progress, EricJ. Even if it's different projects, words down are words down. :)

I'm at 60k for my WIP. My goal is to have an additional 40k finished by the end of December and that should be the novel finished. But we shall see. It might take longer. Or maybe it will end sooner. I have an outline, but those are guidelines and I do sometimes veer from it.

This is true. I was shooting for more but more or less as said, I got the story written out, so it is what it is. Good to see progress on your stuff too...

For some reason I've been following this thread but haven't posted.

I'm targeting a complete first draft at 80 kilowords by Dec 31. I'm just over 70k right now, and my average output is 1k/week, so I need to get my butt in gear. Worse yet, I have a sneaking feeling that by the time I get it all written it's going to be well north of 80k.

Seems like an unrealistic target, but hell, it's a target. If I can get to 2k words/week it will be worth it.

I've also partnered up with another author where we check in every two weeks to report progress to each other, and that's helped. Just to up the accountability we started recording our sessions and now post them in a playlist on my YouTube channel. It's not riveting stuff (my wife says it cures insomnia), but a little "public" accountability helps make it real. Link: https://alanlangford.com/l/no-hook-podcast

Is it just me now? Propping up this whole thread?

Well, I'm around 78k or so. I've slowed down quite a bit before the holidays. Maybe I'll get in some massive word counts this weekend, but probably not. So, I probably won't finish this until mid-Jan or so.

I hope everyone is working on their WIPs when they can during this holiday season. :)

I finished a book, and kinda have other things going on right now, not in the headspace to write, so yeah, you're propping up the thread currently.

I finished a book
Yay! Congrats! Always a good feeling to write 'The End.' Enjoy it while it lasts. ;)

Currently at around 83k. Getting close to the climax. I'm looking forward to writing it. I'm hoping I can do justice while using a 'killing frost' to, well, kill all the bad guys. I hope it works out. :D

Early January I'm planning on picking things up. I'm slowly getting interested in reading and will work on a book or two, which need to be completed as the universe goes on with the stories and such. Good that you're making progress too.

I was off trying to meet my "first draft by Dec. 31" goal. It was always overly ambitious, but it did give me a couple of weeks with lots more written than there would have been without the goal. My progress partner is in the same boat, so now both of us are on "first draft by Jan 31," which is more realistic for me, given that life doesn't get in the way...

Nice! I'm glad you got a bit more on it done. And Jan 31st is a reasonable deadline.

I also wanted to finished my draft by today, but that didn't happen. I'm pretty sure I'll be done by this week or next weekend at the latest. I'm around 91k in and the climax is just around the corner. Should be fun. :)

See you all in 2026!

2493 words for Into the Breach. I've been putting off this 5th Kommando book for a long time, and felt like I was doing some file handling on my computer, to do some much-needed writing. So it begins for this year anyway.

Hi! Been a bit. lol

Working on a middle-grade fantasy. Due to a shoulder injury I can't do long typing sessions anymore, even with an ergonomic split keyboard. That just makes the workday bearable. So! I'm handwriting first drafts, then will use voice to text for getting it on a computer. Any edits will be done in a word processor. All progress will be reported via A5 handwritten pages. Aiming for 400 of these pages, which given my writing size, should end up at around 120 typed, or 30,000 words.

Everything is plotted, chapter by chapter. That I did type out. It's 4010 words long.

Started writing the book yesterday and finished the first chapter with 19 pages.

Sorry to hear that! You might want to try voice dictation on a smartphone. This could cut your typing time down.
As to ergonomic keyboards, yes, they are the best for prolonged typing. I bought several of MS Natural and am wearing them off gradually.

I've tried that! But I don't like the files they're in on mobile. Especially when I have to port over to a word processor. I've had luck with the basic Windows voice to text program. I can use it in Libre Office just fine.

I have the Moonlander keyboard by Zsa. It's programmable which I like, and it's easy to switch out keycaps.

Wrote four more pages during lunch today. About half-way through chapter 2.
Hello NickeeCoco! Great to see the progress and see you back at it. You go!

I'm editing a novel that is due to my (hired) copy editor by the 14th. (eek!) All is going well, but I'm feeling the pressure.

And I am ashamed to report that for about 6 months I am sitting on a 40% finished novel The Lishovar Conspiracy (a spells and swords fantasy set in a fictional world, at middle ages) and on 50% finished fantasy poem: my inspiration simply died off, due to the global economic collapse and political upheaval.
