I don't know if someone else has started a thread similar to this but I really want to know what you think of the series. I liked them quite much because I haven't read so many Fantasy books with a woman as a main character. It's fun when it's different plot, and not the same old story about young orphan boy who ends up as a King.

The world was created so that you felt like you were there standing in the heat of Tsuranami. I wonder "Who was your favourite character", was it Mara or someone else? I haven't read the other books of Feist yet, but I will read them soon, what do you think of them?

Feist and Wurts worked magic together.

All the characters were good, but Arakasi the spy master was my favourite.

I read the EMPIRE trilogy a couple of years ago. I think it was a strong collaboration between Feist and Wurts. The characters were well drawn and seeing the Rift from the otherside was enjoyable too.

I think it was a really clever idea that paid off because it was so well written. Not many authors are brave or talented enough to cover the same story again from a different view point. As said already Wurts and Feist were just amazing in their collaboration!!!
The 'Empire Trilogy' is one of the most original, imaginative and just one of the most brilliant series that I have read in the last few years.

I agree totally. I first read Magician and then this series and it was great. I think the Empire series is better than anything Feist wrote on his own with Magician coming the closest.
Arakasi and Mara are my faves.
I recently read a book about wich features the old Japanese culture and the resemblances striked me. I like these kind of stories with spionage and betrayal and so on.

Nope

Well I guess I'm the voice of dissagreement I didn't overlly like the series all that much. I think it's because I find Janny Wurts first books in a trilogy weak then the next two are excellent but it is hard to get off the first book. I read Duaghter ages ago then couldn't get Servant or Mistress and when I could I tired reading Daughter again and just skimmed it but Servant and Mistress were good - I kinda liked Kevin.
It's the Worst Midkemia/Kelewan series out of the lot in my opinion - which is heavily flawed :)
Heck I'm a Harry Potter fan!

It's better than anything the two authors have written individually. However, if you want to read the trilogy "Empire" wanted to be try the Stone Dance of the Chameleon by Ricardo Pinto, superb.

Blah, you harry potter fans stick your wands into everything!!
(no offence...)
I like potter too... But I'm not so fanatic about it.. didn't like her last book that much...I think she could do better

I must totally agree on that Milambar! Arakasi was so well written and by all means just a fantastic charachter, if I'll get the chance to write something sometimes I wish I could make my charachters as good as Arakasi....

Oh, and now I finally read some other feist book, I've read the The riftwar trilogy and honoured enemy... and I must say Feist Is quite a good writer, even from a Martin fan's point of view....

Definetly agree the spy master was just an awesome character, my favorite scenes throughout the series always involved him.

And I'm still a little baffled the harry potter fan didn't like the Daughter of an Empire...man that was such a great book, I mean I suppose it wasn't exactly action oriented, it was based more upon wit, intrigue and politics, but man the wittiness (is that a word?) was just absolutely brilliant, and the story in my eyes at least had thrills around every corner. I didn't feel there were any real lulls where you're just reading fluffy imagery...which in my opinion too many authors do nowadays to fill up pages.

I read them so long ago now - maybe I should read them again - I just find that the frist book in ANY of her series suck but the other two are fanatastic - I wonder why ...

I actually tried to read the first one a long time ago but at the time I couldn't get into it, Not enough hack and slash.

But I found it in my bookcase a few years ago and completely loved it, I am now trying to get the books back off my sister so I can read it again but she wont give them up.
She has more of my books than I do.

hmmm... am I your sister...LOL.. cause I tend to borrow my bro's books quite a lot... I always return them but sometimes it can take quite awhile If I don't have time to read them....

There's one other thing I really fancy in the books... it's the thing that the world feels quite real, cause they have used a lot of
history in them..

yeah that is always a helpful trait - I think I'm going to make library cards for my friends and family as my books become all over the place :)

have thought of that too since my friends lend both my books and my brother's books and sometimes they can be forgotten...

I am reading the empire series now, I just started with the 4th book in Swedish. I like Mara a lot, but Arakasi, Lujan and Keyoke are some of my favs too. Then there is the charming Kevin whom you can't forget. I haven't read anything else by Feist yet, but I'm sure that will get to them soon.

I love the Empire series! The espionage and political intrigue is awesome, and I think the whole concept of honour the Tsuranis have is rather, well, rather unconceivable to me. It's just so alien, though I guess in some respects it would resemble the ancient Japanese ideals of honour.

The only other Feist work I've read is Talon of the Silver Hawk, and I found that very poor in comparison to the Empire series.

Can anyone recommend any other fantasy books/series with a strong female lead character? I can think of one other, Wolfblade by Jennifer Fallon, but it's the first of the Hythrun chronicles and the others don't come out for awhile (I think).

have you tried The Liveship Traders by Robin Hobb? first came farseer trilogy with a male lead but the Liveship Traders her second trilogy has a female lead.... quite a few major female roles also in the book.
