BRAND NEW SCIENCE-FICTION CONVENTION COMING TO WOLVERHAMPTON THIS JUNE!
A note from Alex Davis:
This summer is shaping up to be one of my most exciting in a while, and indeed probably the busiest I’ve ever had. Not only am I delighted to be working on the return of Derby’s EDGE-LIT event, but I’m also very pleased to be working on a new event at Wolverhampton’s fantastic Light House venue, FUTURA. It all takes place on the 15th June, and, as organiser, I couldn’t be happier with how things are shaping up.
For those of you who haven’t been to the Light House, it’s a fantastic independent cinema and art gallery, located within a stone’s throw of both the rail and bus station in Wolverhampton. As well as the easy travel, it’s a venue that has loads going for it – a fantastic courtyard area which will catch all the day’s sunshine (hopefully!), two great cinema spaces, a modern gallery space and, of course, the cosy LockWorks cafe bar.
So what is FUTURA? Well, it’s a one-day convention with a host of fantastic speakers and authors taking part, including three tremendous Guests of Honour in the shape of Ken MacLeod, Ian R Macleod and Adam Roberts. These are three writers who have been nominated – and indeed won – a host of awards, and each have a catalogue of stellar fiction behind them, so delighted to welcome them to the event. On the day we’ll be hosting a range of panels, readings, kaffeeklatsches and much more, with a packed schedule of events that you can check out at http://light-house.co.uk/featured/2013/05/futura-sci-fi-convention-schedule-of-events/
As well as this, there are going to be plenty of other fun activities on the day, including the live raffle draw with a host of great prizes to be won, the mass signing session and also the SF quiz which will be rounding up proceedings. With some devious questions on the theme of Adaptations, it’s bound to be both a challenging and enjoyable way to round up the evening!
On top of all that, the Light House will be running a real ale bar throughout the day, with a top range of local beverages, and they’ll also be offering discounted tickets to both of their films on the day for FUTURA ticket holders – STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS andBYZANTIUM.
It’s going to be day jammed full of activities, and no doubt I’ll be plenty busy enough on the day, but I can’t wait to get stuck into what promises to be a fantastic event! Tickets for the day are £25, including access to all of the activities on the day, or you can get group tickets for just £20 for groups of 5 or more! For all the latest, and to book your tickets, visit http://light-house.co.uk/featured/20…fi-convention/ or http://www.wegottickets.com/event/218214
I look forward to seeing you there!
