Gary I just started re-reading The Raven series by James Barclay, as I have recently got the remaining books to date. One of the things I said on an earlier post somewhere here was how he killed of characters. I liked the idea that the Ravens as an organisation continue on but the members not always, made for interesting reading from the point that you have to lose the whole perception of "He's the Main character, does not matter what happens to him he will live and win", Just like Harry Potter, a youngster with a few years of magic training taking on the Most powerful mage of the time, get real. In a way it would almost have better if there was a different student each year taking on some baddy.
IMHO anyway.
