What games are you playing?

There's so much in WoW that would appeal to a fantasy book reader that I'm surprised more people here don't play. But thinking back to all that angst in the thread about getting spotting reading a fantasy book on public transportation maybe some people don't want to admit they play.

There's a daily quest that allows you ride a bronze dragon and help them in their war against the blue dragons. Dogfighting on a chatty dragon is fun, and if you're riding on the ground below there are dragon corpses falling out of the sky and crashing all around you.

There's steampunk. The gnomes and the dwarves have all sorts of cute steampunk widgets. This player made video is choppy but you can at least see the steam tanks in the background storming the fortress in Wintergrasp. Squishy mage types can hop in and fire spells from within the mid sized tanks or man the gun on the roof of the larger tanks.

There's the racial aspects. If you've always felt that elves in fantasy lit are arrogant tree hugging pricks that need their herd thinned a bit then get out your gnomelock and start thinning. My gnomelock there has 28,702 kills to date. Not all of them are elves of course. Sometimes misguided individuals will attempt to prevent me from getting at the elves. People on the other side enjoy killing gnomes so there's something for everyone.

What I enjoy in the Lich King is (from a roleplaying POV) the feeling that we, as players, are the elite of the Alliance and Horde forces, rushing here to help deloy soldiers, rushing there to help with a desperate defense. I doubly enjoy it because I am a Warlock. I summon and control beings who have raped whole worlds, and the whole Alliance depends on me to keep doing it.

Daily quests get old, though. Hopefully Ulduar will prove at least a small challenge. Blizzard went a little overboard on making the raids casual friendly. Arena is fine as long as you play a DK or pally ;)

I was pointing out things that would appeal to a fantasy book lover, not really recommending daily quests themselves.

I'm sure there are others....floating cities (Dalaran), floating stone fortresses (Naxx), not much in the way of vampires, plenty of werewolves to kill but since you can't have sex with them I suppose that wouldn't appeal to the paranormal romance fans...

I'm a gaming teetotaller, having only last year broken the Warcraft habit. If I hadn't, I'd never have started writing again.

Shashekar, you've only just hit 80? That's casual! And nice to see that Paladins are still considered the OP class, just as they were when I left it before WotLK came along. The pre-expansion update was the straw that broke this camel's back, I tell ya. Alliance sucks, Horde rules!

I did give Fallout 3 a go, but found it curiously unengaging. Spider Solitaire FTW!

I quit, came back, quit, came back afresh due to bad memories of the old account. I'm thinking of rerolling because I really cannot match burst DPS in PVP fights. I lay on my DoTs, send in my Felguard and watch helplessly as they run up and hit me for 3-6k+.

But on the other hand I'm a PVE killing machine, and I'm great for farming gold (downing Onyxia solo++)

I pretty much just play RPGs, and the majority of those are JRPGs (Japanese RPGs). I am currently doing my second run of the recent PS2 game, Persona 4. I love the art style, the creative, hilarious dialogue, and the battle system.

I am most impressed with the translation though, because it really is well done, along with the excellent voice acting. It very much puts to shame some more shoddily translated works and/or works where the voice acting is mechanically recited or otherwise awkwardly done.

My buddy bought an NES/SNES dual console, so I've been rediscovering Super Mario Brothers lately.

For 360: Gears 2, Halo 3, NHL 2K9, NCAA Football 10, MK vs. DC, and Assassin's Creed.

Online: Santharia, Alchemyst and the old classic Utopia.

Caught the tennis bug and picked up a cheap copy of Virtua Tennis 3, which is driving me mad because I've won 19 grand slams in a row but can't win the season ending Champions tournament and thus clinch the #1 ranking. Four attempts at it and not even a sniff, I feel ill used by an annoying spaniard with large muscles :)

Top Spin Tennis is a good game for XBox

I just quit WoW for the third time. I managed to get further than I usually do, but I get bored of it too fast. I am playing Crisis Core on the PSP now and I have to (grudgingly) admit that it is a pretty good game (I dislike the FF series...).

I love playing VT3 with a group of friends, nothing better!! :)

Yeah I'm tempted to get the next version now that I've beaten VT3 but I'm not sure it's different enough to warrant a purchase. Seriously addictive though :D

I've never played much tennis in video game form....play quite a bit on the real court. I'm thinking of picking up VT2009 and/or EA Grand Slam Tennis over the next few weeks as they're released.

All in all, June looks to be a good month for game releases...not sure how many I'll go in for, as the wallet doesn't want to be hurt too badly...

Also, playing Majora's Mask, which I somehow never have finished. It's finally been released on VC.

Definitely but I will be getting Prototype even if I have to live off bread and water for a week :)

Underwater Soccer-Hockey

...I have to (grudgingly) admit that it is a pretty good game (I dislike the FF series...).

I'm slow on the games scene. I wait a couple of years to pick up platforms and games so that everything is cheaper by the time I get to it. I just recently started playing FF X. While playing a league round of the blitzball mini-game, the wife yelled downstairs asking what I was playing. Since I hate the whole speak-loud-through-the-house mode of communication, I wanted to get the idea across. She would've been stumped by a response of, "Blitzball!" so I just yelled "Underwater Soccer-Hockey!!!"

I've been playing Demigod the last couple of weeks. Great game offline, great game online when the flaky network code allows you to get a game going. They're constantly improving the netcode though so there's hope.

I have a 50% off code they sent out to all the early buyers. It expires tomorrow, you'd have to get the game through Impulse (I do that anyway since it's easier than keeping track of disks), and it takes the price from 40 bucks to 20 bucks. Reply or PM me if you plan to buy the game and want the code.

Well InFamous is waiting for me at home so I'll be playing on that this evening.

Played the demo... it was alright and I can see the game being enjoyable to a point. Prototype looks to be more fun and a similar idea.

Ordered it for the beta access to the online version of Uncharted 2.
