What games are you playing?

Anyone heard of Morrowind, the Elder Scrolls III? I never play PC games (well, not since I was about 15), but my brother just bought it and I actually tried it out a bit. Seems pretty fun. Not sure if I have enough time to spend on it though... That's my main problem with most games. The time that I could spend on games is usually spend on books.

I'm glad to see another Bethesda softworks fan! I'm playing Fallout 3 right now I played Morrowind and Oblivion to death because of their particular style of gameplay these three games are really the only ones worth playing. Have you installed any mods in your game? I wouldn't play without them, they really change the whole look of the game, especially Morrowind. I think I've got around 30 mods installed for Morrowind, 40 or more for Oblivion and 50 or so for Fallout 3. Let me know how you're getting along with Morrowind, I can help if you want to install a mod or two etc.

I finished Trine about 5 minutes ago - I was closer to the end than I thought.

It's certainly not a bad game by any stretch, just a bit infuriating from time to time.

I'm trying to stop myself delving back into Dragon Age. I think I'm going to possibly try to tackle Storm of Zehir next or one of the Realms of Arkania games.

It's just a shame I'm not very good at RPGs that were released before I popped into the world, or even those that predate the 2000s. I feel lost quite often in them :(

Waiting for Hard Rain to come out next Friday. Looking forward to it after being quite impressed with the demo.

Also noticed that Res Evil 5 is coming out Platinum Edition tomorrow, I know it didn't do too well review wise, but I am a long term fan of the series and £14 for a game...

Filling the gaps with Dragon Age.

King's Bounty: Armored Princess.
9hrs since Saturday, and I'm really enjoying it. It's a lot smoother and accessible than Heroes of Might & Magic 5 - The game the King's Bounty series is based on (Would say the other 4 but 5 is the only 3D). Combat can be a lot more forgiving and it has an RPG-like talent system which gives you a good feeling of progression.

My only concern is really about the replay value (I won't be going back to King's Bounty: The Legend, I think), unless it unlocks an "adventure mode" sort of thing. There's other classes to use, but if there's only one game mode then I can see it getting boring quickly.

Borrowed Mirror's Edge from my bro and man is it frustrating. I admire what they've done but the controls are a little too sensitive, the paths often too obsure and in a free running game should there really be just one path? Also it lacks decent balance between running and fighting, the weighting system against fighting seems to hamstring your options greatly.

I have the PC version (got it the day before release, finished it before it came out in the UK :D ) and I didn't run into those problems. If you've got runner vision on then look out for anything that's red, but for the most part the path is pretty linear. There's the odd time where you can take two/three routes from A to B but there's generally one or two ways at most.

As for fighting? You're not meant to fight for a reason, but you can pick up weapons and fire them. Very few times where fighting has to be done, from what I remember.

I thought it was an absolutely brilliant game and totally worth the day or two of disorientation :D

I dunno, the first main level where you jump on and off the helicopter I got a 'Pacifist' award for dodging all the guards trying to nail me. Cool. Then in the second level where you come out of the sewer system there were five guards blocking a door that seemed impossible to avoid - so I stole a shotgun and shot them all :D Being a big FPS player my instinct is to go with the shooty shooty so perhaps I'll have to look into curbing that. I'll keep going because I refuse to not complete games I start, that and I'll get endless grief off my bro :)

The sewer system I think I managed to not shoot anyone. I took them out if I had to, but it's been over a year since I played it for any amount of time so I could have forgotten how to do it :P

I strictly am a PC Gamer. I played World of Warcraft for over 3 years, and recently quit due to its mundane story line and redundant game play. Looking for a good fantasy replacement.

I keep hearing good things about The Lord of the Rings online. Anyone have good experiences with this or any others?

LotRO is the only other MMO I would really give time to, but I only played it on an RP realm. The community is certainly very friendly but in the end I didn't get very far with it. It feels like a much bigger world and it's quite confusing at first. They released the 2nd expansion pack last December, too.
If you want something free then Runes of Magic is often cited as a very good game to play. I tried it in beta (I think) and had no real complaints other than the slightly schizophrenic art design.
WoW is something I'm considering going back to when Cataclysm hits due to the massive shake up to the Stat/Talent/Itemisation system, but I'll be immersing myself into the roleplay a lot more than I did. Got to rememeber that with WoW there's 5 years and 2 expansions of constant evolution so the story's got a few holes that need to be patched along with the Azeroth-wide update to the story in general.

That is why my account is lying dormant now. I plan on returning as well, since I am a huge fan of the 'old world'...

What server were you on, out of interest?
I came from The Sha'tar EU (PvE-RP)

I started on Bloodhoof; one of the original four US servers about a 7 months after its start. From there, an entire guild of 300+ xfered to Area 52, then about 50 or so xfered about a year later to Velen. Been there ever since...

Ah, I see.
I started on Nagrand EU and moved to The Sha'tar EU when I returned around the time 2.3/2.4 hit, maybe a bit before. Had a presence on Steamwheedle Cartel EU but nothing significant there.

Got the hang of Mirror's Edge some more now, the free running bit is much more natural now and although I'm still using weapons plenty, I'm not as frustrated as yesterday.

Good good! I think it's a good game and it was a great note on which to start 2009!

Been playing a little bit of The Witcher lately. Eh...

Finished Mirror's Edge tonight, I found as the levels got harder I actually enjoyed them more and the balance was much better between interior/exterior and run/shoot. I thought it ended abruptly though, like not a lot was resolved beyond you-know-who being saved. My main grumble is that there were sections that could drive you insane trying to figure out and the combat was frustrating when you had to use it. I'd like to see a sequel to see how they'd improve it, certainly a bit more roaming gameplay and multiple routes would be nice. Halo 3: ODST up next.

Glad you enjoyed it though, kater! Even if it's not the best game it's still quite refreshing.
Last I heard Mirror's Edge 2 was confirmed but I've (sadly) not heard anything since, and they're apparently denying confirmation.
:(
