What games are you playing?

Was really hoping Stronghold 3 was going to be good. Wasted a lot of time having fun with the first one. Looks like they really dropped the ball on 3. Guess I'll wait until all the bugs gets squashed and all the promised features are up and running. Summer 2012 Steam sale, perhaps? That's if Firefly and their publisher survive that long.

Firefly definitely will, Darth. They've been quite sporting about it - not to say I agree with them releasing it as it was - so I'd say give them time to get things sorted. Companies have survived much worse releases, but then again some studios have been chopped for less.

I'm finding the more open gameplay of Arkham City less effective than Asylum, normally I love the sandbox style but this doesn't seem to be meshing as well as I hoped. It's also a bit too easy and simple.

I thought the sandbox style fit this game really well. I find the fighting/difficultness to be the same as the first one.

Have you gone to the museum to fight Penguin and the other villian(i don't want to spoil it for you)? That was just fun. The ending was pretty cool too. Granted, some of it you see coming. I still have a lot left to do.

Yeah I found who Penguin has trapped very easy but I did enjoy the Ra's fight. I'm currently at the Freeze fight :)

I've been playing Singularity (whilst waiting for Battlefield 3 to arrive in the mail), and it's surprisingly good. Some parts that genuinely made me jump (probably helps with new good headphones too), and the gameplay, whilst pretty much keeping you on the one path, is smooth with a nice variety of different weapon types and upgrades.

MW3 and Halo Cambat Evolved Anniversary edition to come too.

I agree completely with these thoughts for Arkham City. Asylum feels like a better, tighter experience. It also was never difficult, persay, but City is an absolute cakewalk.

I have been majorly disappointed in the fall lineup thus far. Arkham City and Uncharted 3 were my main wants, and both failed to live up to previous games. Battlefield 3 was a joke in the SP and the MP felt like it wasn't as good as it could have been. I felt Gears 3 was about what I expected, which was more of the same, but at least it didn't get worse like I felt from other series.

I seriously hope Naughty Dog patches up the aiming issues in the Uncharted 3 campaign though. Even though the campaign is still of less quality, if the gameplay was fixed, it wouldn't be quite as disappointing.

Finally finished my first Dark Souls playthrough today. Took me about 80 hours, with another 35 on different characters. Man, what a game. It has some technical issues, some of which I hope they'll fix with the next patch, but it still manages to be a class above everything else released this year (barring maybe Witcher 2). I like most of the stuff they added, the way parts of the world interconnect with eachother is fantastic and the combat system is now more refined. Overall, I think it's an improvement on Demon's Souls, which is saying a lot:).

As for the bad, it mostly has to do with the broken multiplayer. I manage to invade another world maybe once in 15 tries, same thing with summonings, which is a real shame as the Covenant system sounds very interesting in theory and the PVP is really fun when it actually connects. There's also an area late in the game where it feels like they just ran out of ideas and I don't like it when games turn early bosses into regular mobs later on, but neither of those things really takes away from the experience.

I'd be tempted to try out Skyrim, but I think I'll wait to see how much it is during the Steam xmas sale ;)

I'd be tempted to try out Skyrim, but the PC I have couldn't run Oblivion smoothly when it came out 5.5 years ago. I doubt it would do anything at all with Skyrim...probably just curl up and emit a brief wisp of smoke.

You know how I know my wife is great? She gave me Arkahm City for my birthday. So far, it is lots of fun.

I just got home with my pre-ordered copy of Skyrim. I have to admit I called in sick today. I love Elder Scrolls. Off to play I go!

So Jealous! It is taking every ounce of willpower I possess to not buy this game. I know my motivation for school, and all other aspects of my life will fall by the wayside if I get Skyrim.

ENJOY!

Batman - Arkham Asylum.

Borrowed from my OH's brother. So far it's great although I think I've missed a lot of the sub-task about finding out about the history of Arkham. Just realised I wasn't pushing a button correctly.

Once you've finished the main story, you have free-roam of the Asylum. You can generally go back at any point, too, but if you wait until the end then you have all the Batgadgets you need.

So Skyrim is pretty awesome.

At first I was a bit crotchety over the fact that they changed the way alchemy and the class system works, but now that I've gotten used to it, I'm fine with it. I don't necessarily think it's better than the old way, but I don't think it's worse, either.

I don't really like the inventory system, I think you have to back in and out of menus far too much, but it's not killing the game.

They've put in a little more story than they usually do for Elder Scrolls games, which I think is a bonus. It's a lot of fun.

Would you mind explaining the class thing, Nickee? TES never really had one as it was (the "classes" in Morrowind & Oblivion were really just presets rather than actual classes), so I'm interested to hear what they've done.

My girlfriend bemoaned the same things as Nickee - lack of classes and the different inventory system (and extra steps for saving, menu etc.) Other than that, she says it's great.

I've been looking forward to this game forever but she's playing it first since I'm waist deep in Dark Souls...
