Kingkiller Chronicles Speculation (Spoilers for both books)

Has there been any realistic projection as to release date for the next in this series?
I guess I don't want it rushed along since I am hoping book 3 intrigues me the way Book 1 did, rather than disappoint me like book 2 did.
It seems like back when I read NoTW I ran across something from Rothfuss indicating that the entire series was already written and just needed some polish. Anyone else get that impression at one time?

Not that I have seen.

My view is that it will be at least two years at the earliest before the book could be published. This is based upon how book 2 developed. I read Rothfuss's blog and his postings are similar to where they where between book one and two. I'd expect a missed deadline with an extension by the publisher. He is busier in real life it appears but at least he is beginning to employ staff.

That said, I care little how long it takes as long as its up the the standard set forth in the first two books. The clues and hints presented so far continue to amaze me and if he can pull it off this will be a work to set a benchmark for a generation.

Ugh, Rothfuss just posted this solitary sentence on a facebook update:

‎"When Auri woke, she knew that she had seven days."

I hardly know what to make of that, but there's that number 7 again.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but the impression I get about Kvothe's age is that sometime after he becomes the "Kingkiller" and before he opens the Waystone Inn, he returns to the fae realm, possibly to escape prosecution for killing the king. To me that is the only way to explain his age, since time doesn't pass in the fae realm normally. When Chronicler and Kvothe first meet, Chronicler says to him "I thought you'd be older," and Kvothe says "I am older." So the implication is he's an old man who appears to be a young man. And there's that part in TWMF where he says to Bast and Chronicler, "You're both so young." Isn't bast supposed to be a hundred years old or something?

Anyway, my two cents. It would explain his age a bit better if he spent a long time in the fae realm. And of course, it might explain how him and Bast meet in the first place.

Just a note.......

edited to add -- I thought it might be helpful to also add the details about the old pot that was dug up with the gray stones at Trebon.

-----
“It was a big fancy pot,” she said softly. “About this high.” She held her hand about three feet off the ground. It was shaking. “It had all sorts of writings and pictures on it. Really fancy. I haven’t ever seen colors like that. And some of the paints were shiny like silver and gold.”
“Pictures of what?” I asked, fighting to keep my voice calm.
“People,” she said. “Mostly people. There was a woman holding a broken sword, and a man next to a dead tree, and another man with a dog biting his leg…” she trailed off.
“Was there one with white hair and black eyes?”
She looked at me wide-eyed, nodded. “Gave me the all-overs.” She shivered.
The Chandrian. It was a vase showing the Chandrian and their signs.
“Can you remember anything else about the pictures?” I asked. “Take your time, think hard.”
She thought about it. “There was one with no face, just a hood with nothing inside. There was a mirror by his feet and there was a bunch of moons over him. You know, full moon, half moon, sliver moon.” She looked down, thinking. “And there was a woman…” She blushed. “With some of her clothes off.”
-----

I'm just thinking about the bold portion above. A hooded man, Chandrian - obviously Haliax. Is there any other previous link between Haliax and the moon? As it looks here with him covered it moons it could be a reference to Iax/Jax? I do't know if there is any significance of the mirror - it has been a fair few months since my last reading of the series so far. The only iffy evidence I can think of between Haliax and Iax is the name similarity. However, this contrasts with the better backed up theory of Iax being locked behind the doors of stone and we know that he has been out-and-about (if you like) in Kvothe's lifetime.

But just a thought you know :)

Hello, all! I'm newly registered to these boards and I hope we'll all have a jolly time speculating, which is why I'm actually here. :) I don't know if it's been said before, but I have a theory on the Chandrian: it striked me quite obvious somehow that if an arcanist would want to slow down his aging process, he would neutralize or stop his cells from oxidizing. If so, that process would have to be turned from the inside out, actually boosting oxidation in the environment. Conveniently, very high oxygen levels are lethal to living creatures, could create rust out of metal and, most importantly, could turn flames bright blue. What do you think about this? Cheers!

I fairly sure that it's some kind of timeline mixup by Rothfuss and his team.

I just kind of assumed that Chronicler attended the University at an "old" age, so he could have written his book before attending the University and only gone there after Kvothe left.

Hi all, first off I wanted to say WOW, all of you put forth some great ideas that got me thinking. This is the first time ive ever posted on a forum so be gentle....
I believe, as someone mentioned, the Chronicler is a title, as he also gives his name. Kote seems impressed to be talking to THE Chronicler, its empty speculation but I would love it if he ended up being associated with the Amyr. Shout out about the Imre/Amyr connection, seems like a really solid theory and as the center of magic and learning in the four corners is likely to become associated with the Amyr in some ways (the name escapes me, but the one "outed" Amyr was the de sade esque character whose primary purpose involved a pursuit of knowledge that was for "the greater good", his pursuit to further medical knowledge makes me think of the University (although they have different methods).

I disagree with all the Cinder=Ash speculation, alot seems built on the similarity of names but twice it is mentioned Ash is from Elm/Ash not ash as in fire, also I cant see Denna ignoring his "signs". He plays a big part in the story but im expecting a dramatic reveal of Ash as a peripheral character weve dismissed. True PRothfuss is "obvious" as several people mentioned but i think some is misdirection.

We can bet on Skarpi showing up again, I dont think anyone can dispute that, at the beginning of NOTW it seems skarpi is well known to Kote and he only had brief, if important, contact with him before; we were also left with the impression that his arrest would be taken care of (given that skarpi was telling the truth, i believe he was) so he makes a handy little character to advance the story quite a bit when he pops up again.

Something Ive noticed on my latest read through- Vashet mentions to Kvothe on pg 821 (nook) of WMF "I spent four years as bodyguard and captain for a poet...who also happened to be a king" Given the mysterious sword (speculated before to be cinders) I am curious if Kvothes Ademre past will catch up to him and he must fight for his school or avenge his teacher somehow, with him killing the poet king (who also happens to be another character we know, as his name is not mentioned) and receiving Folly, which is Vashets sword. Speculation, yes but these tiny details are there for a reason, PR is a gifted writer. Maybe the Chandrian show up in Ademre, as they happen to know alot about the seven and have only preserved this knowledge through word of mouth and strict rules.

The Cthaeh says "Stick by the Maer and he will lead you to their door.... remember what I just said. Eventually you'll get the joke." The Cthaeh's nature leads me to believe leading him to the door will be tragic, perhaps the Maer arrests him or dies.

While im on Cthaeh, I agree Kvothe is being manipulated, I believe to open the stone door, which will release the moon and combine the fae and mortal worlds, hence the spider guys and general havoc, which is Haliax's goal, i want to believe it is more than coincidence that Iax and Haliax are similar, they arent the same person, as already proved previously, but i think he is in some ways a successor and the name has significance and would give the Chandrian a goal and a reason to be so interested in Kvothe, as he has the blood and they must wait for the right time, as mentioned in the poem. This gives the Amyr a purpose as well, keep the fae realm separate and a better motive for Iax to lock away the moon than a love story- seperate the dangerous Fae from our realm. The time frame seems to fit.The Fae are in on this as Felurian appears to Kvothe (she demonstrates later that her appeal can be controlled and directed to an extent) and is irresistible. and the lack of Sithe guards at the Cthaeh tree is suspicious, unless they had something to gain (greater good again) by letting Kvothe be manipulated. She also mentions Fae walking the mortal realm with heavy glamours, im sure there are 1 or 2 characters who will suprise us with the reveal.

Oh man, almost there. Lastly i think Kvothes oath to Denna mentioned previously isnt binding YET, perhaps when he breaks his oath it awakens her sleeping mind and she binds him to his promise, taking his left hands agility etc. Denna has showed some magical ability with her yllish knots

I realize this is largely speculation and wishful thinking and I left a few holes in my theories, as long as this post is i wanted to keep it short, but those are the bones of my thoughts

I guess that Denna comes from the town Levinshir. In chapter "Wine and Water" Kvothe mentions that Krin looks very much like Denna, she got the same hair and eyes as Denna, and when Krin and Kvothe is talking together in later chapters, I imagine that Krin got the same humour as Denna.

In the chapter were Kvothe is following Denna trough the streets, Denna is talking to the girl that got raped. I'm to lazy to give you an quote from the scene, but it sound like Denna did the same as what the girl did.
If this is wrong, I think that Denna got raped, and then she left her family because she felt ashamed.

I got 2 theories about who might be Master Ash. The one that is think is best is that he is Cinder. In both the encounters between Cinder and Kvothe, it is mentioned that Cinder moves in a very "relaxed and elegant" way, thus is he a good dancer. Denna mentions that Ash is a very good dancer. Haliax also says that Cinder loves his "cruelties" too much, and Ash is hurting Denna. Things that might prove that this theory is wrong is Cinders age. Cinder got "a face like porselain".
Master Ash is old, looks old, and Cinder just don't seem old to me.
The second person I think might be Ash is another of the Chandrian. He is one of the people sitting around the campfire. The only think that is mentioned about him is that he is bald and got grey hair. We only know how 3 of the chandrian look, and I think there is a reason for that...

I think that Maer Alveron got poisoned because someone told the arcanist to do it. Who would gain anythin from that? Alveron, too sick to do anything. Why not simply kill him? If Alveron died, who would get the power? Someone in his family, an heir. The people that Alveron had promoted to captains++, would lose their jobs. The new regent would pick his own captains. Men he trusted, men he knew...But if Alveron was sick, who would rule in his stead? Stapes? No, he's "just" a servant. But... a higly ranked officer, a Commander... Dogan!

In one of the scenes where Kvothes parents are speaking together, it sounds like Kvothes father (I dont remember his name) is not Kvothes biological father. Kvothes mother was a noble when she lived in Vintas, so someone in the Maers court might be Kvothes father. I dont think that this theory is right, but it might be...

I wonder if the Cthaeh misled with the "He beats her..." comment. What it if refers to Bredon beating her at Tak like he does Kvothe and the "uses his walking stick" refers to teaching her self defense?

It sounds like a good example of misdirection an evil being would use.

I suspect Auri will be harmed or killed accidentally by Kvothe. She and D are each half of the Moon and when Kvothe acts to free D he destroys the Auri half.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but doesn't he do sympathy in the first book, chapter six? It makes no mention of him holding the strawberry wine, but says it shattered eight inches away from him when chronicler had irritated him. I took it as sympathy, uncontrolled sympathy but at least raw power sympathy. That's the only spot I've picked up on about him using sympathy. I just started reading it again so forgive me if I'm wrong, but didn't anger unlock one of his door in his brain a while after his parents died?

Edit: also, what if we are looking at this wrong? What if Auri is a Chandrian? Unlikely due to Elodin seeming to know her, but would the Chandrian want the two worlds combined? Could she not be giving him the keys (if they are parts of the keys) to help aide him in opening the door? And maybe Devi is an "angel" that he has to kill once he opens the door, perhaps she wants access to the Archives to guard the door from being opened, or wants to go there to open it herself at the cost of Auri, as the person above me also feels like something bad will happen to Auri and Rothfuss' Facebook update indicates. I have nothing to prove this, and I'd like any information disproving it or against it, I'm just thinking aloud here. Plus

I'm also thinking Denna is an Amyr due to her knowing the Yllish knots. Maybe I'm confusing one of the Chandrian and the Amyr but I think Denna would be the Amyr that first felt a mans unwanted touch. This would explain why she is never intimate with Kvothe, although her possibly working for a Chandrian could rip that theory apart. But who knows their tactics when they are that old and have been battling each other for so long.

And as for Chronicler hearing about Kvothe, he says he was kicked out at an age before most people are allowed in. Couldn't he have just joined shortly after Kvothe was expelled and after he wrote his book?

Could the Cthaeh and Chandrian want the worlds to combine to leave the tree open for humans to hear? It seems like a plausible idea to me at least. And it's hard to tell who could be Amyr or Chandrian because the Cthaeh leads us to believe they can hide their identity and tell tale signs, but who can trust a thing like that?

Hey guys. New user here, and this thread rocks. Awesome theories so far.

However, there is one big thing you guys are overlooking about Ctheah (at least I haven't seen this thus far, or I'm making too much of this one passage): I just started my seventh (heh) reread of the series, and came across this early on. It's when Kvothe is just beginning his story, still setting up where he wishes to begin, and talking about his name (which means "The Flame," The Thunder," and "The Broken Tree"). Location 1258, for Kindle readers:
"I've never thought of "The Broken Tree" as very significant. Although in retrospect I suppose it could be considered at least partially prophetic.
Now, there are sever things to consider here, but I think he may be talking about Ctheah in some regards. Now, we know that when Bast speaks of the tree later, there is no mention of it being "broken," but it's possible Bast has not heard that it is. I think more likely, he somehow twists what Ctheah has told him, thus "breaking" the future Ctheah sees for him. If Ctheah is truly evil (and with what we know, it is definitely possible), we may see a unique twist late in DoS that tears away from what Ctheah's intentions were.

It is also possible he meant the Letantha, but I really don't think that's a possibility. Other than Ctheah, I can't really see any other... "Tree Breaking"

Also, there is something that has been bothering me since the first time I read WMF. I have searched all over, and found nothing. It's very possible this is nothing, but I refuse to believe in coincidence of passages when it comes to PR. He's too sneaky for that.

In chapter six, Love, Manet is chilling with Kvothe and the boys in Imre, and he mentions entrance exams, then asks Kvothe:
Let's say you have three spades in your hand, and there have been five spades laid down... How many spades is that, total?"

Then, in chapter nine, A Civil Tongue, Kvothe is being quizzed by the masters for exams, and Elodin asks"
You have three spades in your hand... And there have been five spades played... How many spades is that?

... I mean... am I missing something? It stirs the other masters, but that could just be because it's an odd question. Is there something I'm missing?

I just joined to speculate, and just got this idea. Please do tell me what you think!

would yllish knots work on the fae? or maybe denna's hair was open when Bast saw her?
is master ash a ruse? Denna one of the chandarian? the one without clothes? It is said that skins/names are clothes, and she has none for she keeps changing them? Would also explain her...talents. Though I dont understand why she ages (Deoch), and why she existed before Kvothe met Skarpi.
If not one of them, she might be a major associate, atleast?
Also, "...the story told of how Kvothe had gone looking for his hearts desire. He had to trick a demon to get it. But once it rested in his hand, he was forced to fight an angel to keep it." followed by an "I can belive it. This is the face of a man who has killed an angel"
So, he went looking for Denna, who was one of the Chandarian, so Amyr tried to fight him, Chandarian tried to keep her. Amyr have wings and are good, i.e. angels. So he killed an angel, for Denna. And also tricked the Chandarian, and hence a demon, maybe Cinder, and hence got his sword? He caused the war and scrael, for by saving Denna and killing one of the Amyr, the doors holding back the flood opened. Maybe even a king tried to stop him/kill Denna, the guy Kvothe is sure is one of the Amyr, or atleast linked to them?

Also, Chandarian kill people who sing *true* songs about them! What if Cinder, a.k.a. Mr.Ash decided to get a poem written to change the idea? Since no poems exist beforehand, and not many people know that Chandarian delete their own entries, this card could play right?

he definitely changed his name, the first book indicates that names matter to him. That Kote matters as a name. Either that, or maybe the system also works backwards? If you change yourself, your name changes, too?

why thrice locked? why not seven times? it might only unlock with its name, so must Kvothe rediscover his powers?

And true love? Auri! A princess! she might've been a namer once. And the reason why she calls him whatever his first love is supposed to call him. Maybe she will revive him, from Kote to Kvothe?

Note: Heart's Desire is/was Denna, true love is Auri?
P.S. when auri woke, she knew she had seven days. Seven days...to save our Illien? Kvothe?

Also, I dont know. But Hailax...Iax. Kvothe...Kote. Tarbolin...Elodin?

I'd have to disagree with some points.

Firstly I believe that whats behind the doors of stone is Iax.
Now several points before I start quoting: Iax was the one who stole the moon. Jax in Hespe's story trapped the moon in a box. Felurian mentions that the guy who ripped the moon out of the sky is trapped behind the doors of stone. (obviously Iax and Jax... same person. Stories just changed his name)

"She held up the smooth stone. but still one moon. And it all round and cozy in the mortal sky. Her smile faded. but one shaper was greater than the rest. For him the making of a star was not enough. He stretched his will across the world and pulled her from her home..."No calling of names here. I will not speak of that one, though he is shut beyond the doors of stone.
"

So.... guy who stole the moon... shut beyond the doors of stone. Iax.
So Iax is trapped behind the doors of stone.

Now as for the Lackless box. I believe simply enough that the Lackless box holds a part of the Moon's name.

"Something metal, by the way the weight shifts when I tilt it. I closed my eyes and listened to the padded thump of its contents moving in the box. No. By the weight of it, perhaps something made of glass or stone."---> I have a strong feeling that this holds the moon's name.

As for what Kvothe keeps in the box. I would be horribly disappointed in Rothfuss if it turned out to be something as simple as his name and powers etc.
When Denna, Dinnae, Dianneh etc makes Kvothe promise not to look for her patron Kvothe swears "I swear it on my name and my power. I swear it by my good left hand. I swear it by the ever-moving moon."
Now there's a significant amount of evidence to go with this:
1st: No music "left hand more nimble, as a rule" Kvothe can't play music anymore because his left hand is no good to him. He can't play properly. We know he can still sing because "With the fire shining in his hair, he sang Tinker Tanner, with more verses than anyone had heard before, and no one minded in the least."
So we know Kvothe can sing. He still has a lovely singing voice from all appearances. But he won't play music.... Why? He can't... His left hand can't chord on his lute.

2nd: When making the wreaths "The innkeepers fingers fumbled clumsily" When have we ever heard of Kvothe's fingers being clumsy. This is absolutely against everything we know about him.

I know there's more that I could dig up but I can't be bothered.

So to summarise:
Iax/Jax is trapped behind the doors of stone.
Iax was the one who stole the moon and sealed it in a special box.
The Lackless box holds the final part to the moon's name.
Kvothe swore not to look for Denna's patron and did. Thus binding his powers and hand.

Finally: Someone mentioned earlier a theory about Lorren being a member of the Amyr. I haven't seen any evidence for it, but I genuinely enjoy the idea of him being one of the Amyr.

i support this summary exept that iax/jax is behind the door and is the last shaper and the last one that know the moons name but it can also be just the body of iax (haliax killed him and stole his iax powers), for the box i think it only contains the part of the moon that also is a part that can halp kvote kill haliax(think about the pot with haliax and the three moons)

Lorrens part of the amyr is plasuble but i think that master herma is more likely or just for a twist master hemma :P

Just finished the books and found this thread. Great speculations! I agree with the main ones, but my speculations revolve mostly around master elodin (probably because he's my favourite character after kvothe). I think there is too much similarity between elodin, kvothe, and taborlin the great to ignore.
Firstly, elodins escape from haven. Secondly, elodin seems to have at least some knowledge/experience on all of kvothes adventures (ademre, fae realm, only person to recognize the shaed etc).and we all know kvothe is similar to taborlin. Could elodin be taborlin himself? A decendant? Kvothes biological father? (Bit of a stretch lol). Maybe they are all Amyr. Eldoin has obviously spent time in the fae realm too, being much older than he looks. When talks about the old university it kind of screams that it is his own experience. I think elodin not only has a big part to play in the next book but also was a big part in pre-modern times.

Also I think that Auri is a very powerful namer, and agree with another user's speculation that she will play a big part in kvothe's revival.

I theorize that all of the "one and done" posters in this thread are really all just Patrick Rothfuss, and he's trying to throw everyone else off the scent. :D

Hi everyone. I don't know if any of the original posters still read this thread but I want to comment some theories.

1.- The waystones: they are doors to Fae, or at least mark the places where the passages are. Why do the Chandrian never attack near the waystones? because the Sithe can use them to travel from Fae to this world, and don't need the influence of the moon to travel through worlds. That's why they mark safe places to rest: the Sithe guard the Stones from the Fae side.

2.- The University: I think it was founded by the original Shapers, as they were the most powerful and respected members of the Arcanum. It could partialy explain the presence of the Four Plates Door, as I think the University was built around the Doors. I also think the modern University was built over one of the ancient cities in the War of Creation. It could go with the theory someone mentioned about Imre being the city of the Amyr: they built Imre to guard the Doors located in the ruins of the Ancient city. What the Doors contain, i don't know... maybe it's like someone else said, the gateway to death itself? Maybe Lanre/Haliax wants to use it to reunite with Lyra at last?

3.- The Amyr: I have a hunch that Wilem is an Amyr. I don't know why, but this character has an aura of importance that I think goes underestimated.

4.- Denna: she's is a human. An important human, yes, but nothing supernatural. I think she is not related (as family) to Kvothe or working with the Chandrian. I do believe she knows a kind of magic other than the Yllic knots, but doesn't control it. She is Kvothe's heart's desire, and the reason he will cause the war (maybe that's the betrayal he talks about).

5.- Bast: he can't be Kvothe's son with Felurian. She would be giving birth to thousands of Faen through the millenia!! Remember her seducing men since they started walking through that forest? Also, Kvothe can't go back to Fae, since he would have to return to Felurian.

6.- Cinder as Master Ash: in my mind, it doesn't fit. I happen to adhere to the theory that Master Ash is an Amyr, beating Denna to get to Kvothe for the greater good (whatever it may be in their minds).

7.- Maybe the greatest of my theories, for it is the plot I imagine for the series: Kvothe hasn't lost his powers, he's just hiding them. The reason for it is to confront Cinder again, or maybe even Haliax, though I think it's Cinder because the Cthaeh said Kvothe would encounter him at least once again. I think Kvothe's telling his story to draw them near, call them upon him so he can at least kill Cinder before he dies. For that to happen, he must look weak, like he lost all his magic and fighting abilities. It's like playing Tak: walk into your opponent's trap, and then walk out pulling your foe into your own trap. Remember he's an Edema Ruh, a consumated actor, a genius and a living legend.

I have more theories, and I can elaborate on these, but I think I'll post them if there's any feedback on these I've already put here. Also, please forgive any mistakes in the names, I read the books in spanish and they change when you translate them into english.

One a thing tight-held in keeping

could be the sword he got from the Ademre its only his for keeping and has a long history to it

my crazy theories

first thing i hope pat is going to finish the series with thiss third book i would enjoy more but i cannot wait for anther series like song of fire and ice.

now some wild theories :
1.did anyone see brandons last name could he be ambroses dad(ambroses dad is a born in vint) and diana patron if so i think that who kvote kills (after the royal family dies and he is crowned) at the present i think ambrose is king.

2. i know alot of people say jax/iax is kvote ancestor but could he be ambroses his last name is jakis.

3. i think the doors of stone are all the greystone like in robinns hobbs series i think the worlds collide and the doors are thrown open.

4. i think that auri is princess ariel and after ambrose rise to the thorne kvote finds out and leads a reblion. ( wich is the war that is raging in the present).

5.the amyr are presently evil and brendon is one of them (that is the human amyr. i think it split into 2 diffrent things the fea and the human. the human become corrupt and works with the seven while the fea was secert and small and fighting them.)i think the rumor kovte heard in severn that berndon had pegan rituals was true and involve waystones which we learn in wmf many believe to be sires of pegon rituals

6. i do think brandon is diana patron in 95% he has a walking stick in the book it says his family colars are ash grey (mr. ash) plus ther was a part in the book wher kovte could not find diana in severn and when he send a card to brendon he was not there either.and lets not forget he is learing to dance and diana said her patorn was a good dancer.

nice

Some additional theories

Hi all, first time poster, as this threads attracts them like flies. :-)

Currently on the fourth re-read of NotW, and afterwards on the third of WMF. Some observations.

Age discrepancy between Chronicler and Kvothe: personally, I just assumed that the Chronicle enrolled to the University at an old age.

Old heroes could live centuries? Iax stole the moon and started Creation Wars. In Skrapi's tale of Lanre, Myr Tariniel stood undefeated cause Selitos was watching over it. Furthermore, Selitos mentiones that the only Namers that could rival him in power were Aleph, Iax and Lyre. From this we might conclude that Selitos and Iax were contemporaries.
And then it sais that Creation wars were lasting for centuries.
So I wonder, if these characters were really centuries old, is longeivity the property of Namers, or of all humans of old?

Skrapi's ties to the Amyr. Skrapi knows secrets from history which are lost today. He talks about Creation Wars and the largest empire that ever was (forgot the name, something on 'E'), and that they all were just 'doubtful rumours' as mentioned in books that are so old as to be dust nowadays. That means that Skrapi has access to sources of information more precise and more vast than what can be found in Kvothe's time (a library or oral tradition). Arugably, University's Library might also hold some of these books, but seeing as how it would take several lifetimes to go through them we might never know. So who would have kept all the records straight in this long time? Maybe a group of tightly-connected people with a control mania. :-)
Furthermore, I've seen on some board (maybe here, it was a while ago) that on the second day of his storytelling in which Kvothe participated in Treban, he may have spoken Kvothe's true name when he addressed him, before being taken away by Tehlins. Skrapi didn't know Kvothe's name beforehand, and there was a moment on the first day when he looked deep into his eyes, described in similar terms as Elodin's and grandma Adem's look when they were naming Kvothe (Elodin when Kvothe first called the wind, grandma when she was giving him the Adem name). And it stands to reason that whoever would take on Chandrian would have to have some access to magic and naming.
All this leads me to believe that Skrapi is either one of the Amyr, or has tight connections to them.
