Fool's Quest by Robin Hobb

I just now went to Audible and bought it (thanks for the reminder!), but I won't listen to it until I've finished my current book. :-)

Rob's SFFWorld review of it is up tomorrow (I think!).

I am behind on my Hobb reading. I keep saying I must catch up!

I saw that. I'll read his review after I read the book.

Yes, you must.

With that said, I read the first chapter last night and am going to hold off on reading more.

It just occurred to me, if Hobb has treated Fitz and the Fool so so horribly, what on earth is she going to do to poor Bee?

Tears are already forming...

(Don't tell me!!!)

I must fortify myself before reading more.

Going to be starting it this weekend. Can't wait after reading the review although I'm regretting not reading the rain wilds yet now - next on list then :)

I really liked Rain Wilds and would recommend reading it first so you get a complete story. But if you have an insatiable desire to read Fool's Quest, who am I to stop you? ;)

My copy is on the way (I ordered the UK version, as I have with all the previous Fitz books). Can't wait to start reading! I read the first book last month, and loved it.

I also got to see Robin Hobb in Seattle this week, for her book launch. She read an excerpt, did a really long Q&A, and signed/personalized tons of books. It was a great!

I needed this nudge to return to Robin Hobb. Tawny Man is my next in line of her series. I seem to remember it being a big favorite on these boards.

I just finished this one. AMAZING, but the ending felt all over the place.
I've been hearing that it is the readers that are all over the place at the end of the novel.... ;)

Really, really, really must catch up with my Hobb reading....

LOL - yeah, I guess that's what I meant. Of course, after each book, I want to kill Hobb. The things she does to her characters! Drives me nuts! But I can't wait for the next one.

I think that sums up the work of a great writer: to create those emotions and then have readers wanting to go back for more.... think most writers would love a reaction like that!

Slow reader here. I'd thought I'd skip over the Rain Wild series and go on to Fitz and the Fool series, maybe returning to Rain Wild afterwards. Does anyone else who's reading the recent series regret skipping Rain Wild? (You all probably read Rain Wild...)

I skipped the Rain Wild series. I'm sure I'm missing stuff, but it hasn't detracted from my enjoyment of the current series. I did read the Tawny Man series (and Farseer series, of course).

Naw. I haven't read the dragon ones OR the ship ones. I may read em someday... may not.

I think quite a few of us skipped the Rain Wilds books, myself included. I was so burned by Soldier Son that I was hesitant to read anything from her, but I am so glad I read the newer two.

Yeah, I'm not sure why those are so bad, but they are. I guess you can't always hit home runs.

I did read your review, by the way. You summed the story up nicely, but you are right about it being almost impossible to avoid spoilers. I do want to compare notes, though. If no one minds, I might ask some questions...

Should I wait a few months until others have had a chance to read it?

I read the first two Rain Wild books, and stopped. While I enjoyed the first Fitz/Fool book, I was annoyed by the pace. I liked the most recent book much, much more. At any rate, I think I missed a few things by not finishing Rain Wild, but not enough to feel compelled to revisit that series.
