What comics are you all reading? What do you think?

I stopped reading comics a long time ago but discovered Judge Dredd last year, and now I'm hooked. Call me ignorant, but I never thought there would be any interesting Comic "Heroes" out there, just the usual ones from Marvel & DC, so I was positively surprised to stumble over this rough, violent but principled cop in a bleak future. I decided to read the Case Files in chronological order, should be interesting enough to follow this character's development through the years.

I assume you're talking about the IDW Dredd. As a reader of 2000AD I tried those and dropped them fairly quickly. The Case Files are a perfect way to read about Joe Dredd. There are some great storylines ahead of you!

Valiant, and Image. You might find interesting heroes from those publishers.

Also Hellboy of Darkhorse.
Thanks for the recommendations! I checked those three publishers websites and can't say I know any of the titles/names I saw (besides Hellboy), and at a first glance nothing tickled my taste buds concerning images and style. Not saying your recommendations are no good, but I'm afraid there's not much current comics out there who'd be able to arrest my attention. That's purely on me and (I guess) my "socialization" on european comics of the 70s to the 90s, from Uderzo & Goscinni's Asterix to the sometimes rather bizarre stuff from artists like Édika, Ptiluc, Bilal, Foerster, Moebius etc. Seems to me that the very british Judge Dredd's able to squeeze himself somehow into my very narrow taste in comics ;)

I'm sorry but you assume wrong ;) Thanks to a very nice and helpful shop assistant at the fourth or fifth comic store on my search for Judge Dredd material here in Berlin, I went home with the first two volumes of the Case Files and a good history lesson of 2000AD and their other comic titles. I could be tempted to try some of them, but first things first. As you said, there's a lot of good Dredd stuff ahead of me. And I'm not good at multitasking.

Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider issue 1

Hell as in Mephisto's Dimension was explored by Johnny Blaze and Zarathos The Demon with interesting information about this dimension including rules of the 1st Zone.

It is a exciting great 1st issue that has a great cliffhanger with most likely issue 2 resuming where issue 1 ended, found out what is Johnny Blazes's greatest fear, got to see certain dead super villains, and is exciting because of drama and action including something that looks like it's inspired by Duel and Mad Max Fury Road.

A great first issue in the crossover Story Arc Damnation that involves 3 other super heroes Doctor Strange, Spider Man, and Iron Fist.

I'm optimistic that this story arc is going to have Ghost Rider (Zarathos) In a epic fight fighting Mephisto.

Mephisto is the main Super Villain or the Big Bad he is a Devil and a Hell Lord. Mephisto kills Johnny Blaze, Johnny is seen falling and drops in Hell along with Zarathos the demon.
Johnny is separated from Zarathos, and Hell is the name of Mephisto’s dimension.

The first zone of Hell is persons hurting other persons, the persons won’t die but will still feel the physical pain . The rules are everyone suffers, and only 1 way to stop hurting is to hurt someone else it is a endless cycle of violence. It’s not a Paradox Hell would have these rules since

Johnny Blaze grabs a Hellfire weapon and hits persons knocking them down. Zarathos easily used his Chain surrounding it with hellfire, and easily knocks down other persons.

They walk to another area of Hell.
Johnny is able to persuade Zarathos to help him instead of remain in the first zone or circle of Hell.Zarathos declines merging because he wants to see Johnny prove himself by defeating the Worst sinner which after getting punched multiple times happens because Johnny stops a punch and break’s the Sinner’s wrist, and Zarathos is shown eating the sin which mostly resembles Witches in Hocus Pocus sucking the life-force out of a human.

The Rose, Jack O’Lantern, and other Super Villains are shown in a lounge drinking some kind of alcohol. They are afforded certain luxuries because of who they were on Earth. It was surprising seeing something ordinary in Hell which is Super Villains in a lounge drinking alcohol, and does answer the question of where are certain dead Super Villains.
All but 1 Super Villain decline to help Johnny take over Hell because if he failed they would lose their luxuries so can’t blame them for declining.
Between the Bar and Mephisto’s Castle is 7 circles each is worse than the last, and the 7th Circle is stalked by a Giant Monster that is Typhaon also several Cerberus. The Rose decides to draw a map for Johnny to give him an advantage.

The writer must be inspired by Mad Max Fury Road because Johnny and Zarathos both riding Motorcycles on a road with Sinners in vehicles that look like something from Mad Max also they have weapons moving toward Johnny and Zarathos. A unique excellent attack Zarathos lights his chain with hellfire connects it to his Motorcycle and Johnny’s Motorcycle both moving far apart to spread the flaming chain that wrecks all 3 vehicles. Johnny and Zarathos both use a chain that have a hook that hooks to the front of cars lights up both chains and flips the cars over.
The Motorcycles are side by side Zarathos lights both the front tires with Hellfire, both are shown driving so damn fast that hellfire is shown on the road and they drive through the middle of Cars easily which is astounding.

The Typhaon must have shapeshifting powers because it changes it’s body to a Giant Long Vehicle with big red headlights, and a open mouth. Zarathos and Johnny shoot flying demons using guns that has hellfire ammo while being chased by the Typhaon. It was terrific and exciting seeing Johnny jump off his Motorcycle merging with Zarathos. Ghost Rider is able to wrap his chain around the legs of a flying demon to move away from the close Typhaon. Ghost Rider hanging on the back of the Giant Elephant Man expands The Hellfire to cover both him and the Giant Elephant Man , The Giant Elephant Man runs through the Typhaon that creates a explosion defeating the Giant Monster.
The Giant Elephant Man fights multiple Cerberus which is why Ghost Rider is able to break doors by kicking the doors so he can walk inside Mephisto’s Castle, walks up stairs, and on the other side of the door is whatever you fear most. Johnny opens the door, walks to curtains changes to Ghost Rider scorching curtains, walks to the King of Hell Chair, and sits down on the King of Hell Chair with a Crown shown on Ghost Rider’s head showing he’s become the new King of Hell.

What Johnny fears the most is having to work with a Legion of Demons, Sinners, and Hellions instead of fighting and punishing them . There are things which are worse than death and 1 is Ghost Rider is now King of Hell, and rules over Sinners, Demons and Hellions.

Johnny’s worst fear or what he fears most has become true.

A Legion of Demons is shown walking toward the Ghost Rider, and a Demon bows before Ghost Rider telling all of this as in Hell is yours now, and asks for orders.

A great cliffhanger can’t wait to read issue 2. Mephisto is currently on Earth and he created Hotel Inferno in Las Vegas where he began collecting Souls that has expanded Hell’s Dominion.

Just read the Magic Order by Mark Millar, man I am becoming such a fan of his. This looks to be a great 6 parter.

90s Ghost Rider Issue 30
Nightmares of Truth

This is the 90s Ghost Rider (Dan Ketch) series. A great cover that is on the mark for the story. It's a great story that gave me exactly what I expected, Nightmare is a great Super Villain, and I was surprised to see he wears elf shoes and still is a Badass Demon Super Villain, also it was great seeing NIghtmare's realm and learning more about him.
Not Many Villains can wear Elf Shoes, still look badass and be taken seriously as Evil Villains including Pure Evil Villains.

Also Nightmare seems like a uncredited inspiration for Freddy Krueger, and he did debut before Freddy Krueger.
What I expected you can read in the spoilers.

I expected a fight with Ghost Rider and Nightmare, it has Dan Ketch and Ghost Rider fighting Nightmare in his realm since Dan and Ghost Rider have been separated. NIghtmare's strength levels would be raised to unimagined proportions if Lilith a Powerhouse Demon and her Children create terror in the Waking World and are left unchecked by Ghost Rider. He has a great plausible motivation for wanting to kill Dan Ketch and Ghost Rider which while nefarious is lame, uncreative, lazy, and unimaginative because he's evil.

It's a creative way for How Dan and Ghost Rider defeat Nightmare that has a great price, and continuity brought up since Nightmare talks about Ghost Rider having defeated him before which no doubt is before this volume when Johnny Blaze was Ghost Rider. Nightmare is surprised to find out that this Ghost Rider is not Zarathos a Demon that is God Like and Boundless, and rivals Mephisto for power.

DC Universe Rebirth
Hal Jordan and The Green Lantern Corps Issue 7

My 1 complaint is unlike the previous issue it has a great cover that does not match what happens in the Story. Issue 6 has a great cover that is on the bullseye for what happens in the story, or is representative of what happens in the story.

It is a great story that gives me exactly I expected and wanted with a resolution of what it set up in the last issue, creates cliffhangers so can't wait to read the next issue, references to Continuity, and a Terrific dramatic fight involving a Super Hero and Super Villain with a plausible reason that isn't contrived or lame.
If Persons doubt that Sinestro is a Super Villain then read this series you'll see that even with him ruling the Universe with his Sinestro Corps you can see why he is in the wrong.

Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) fights Sinestro in a dramatic close fight, Sinestro does bring up the Green Lantern before Abin Sur and why his feelings about Hal that the power ring choose, also trying to persuade Hal that fear is the best way to create order in the Universe and offers him a chance to be a Yellow Lantern.
Since John and the rest of the Green Lantern Corps are able to get captured persons of the Planet so no innocents Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) Doesn't hold back creating a Green light energy explosion possibly the size of a atomic bomb. Guy Gardner does become a Yellow Lantern telling John that We're the good guys meaning him, Sinestro's Daughter, and the rest of the Yellow Lanterns shown.
Most likely answered in issue 8 with the aftermath of the explosion for Sinestro and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan).

Have been reading a recently purchased Golden Age Sheena:The Best of Sheena Queen of the Jungle Vol. 1, from Devil's Due Publishing Company, stories mostly from Jumbo Comics where she made her debut in 1937,
Also bought The Complete Stories of Sheena Queen of the Jungle published by Pulpville Press, these are text.
Dell Tarzan comics over at the onlines archives of Edgar Rice Burroughs official site
And dipping into lots of Golden Age Public Domain pre-Wertham crusade at ComicBookPlus. Many genres, most of them comics I had never heard of, before my time, others I do remember from childhood. Anyone recall Ben Bowie and His Mountain Men? And finding the Annie Oakley comics I read, remember watching the TV show. I liked mainly Westerns(The Lone Ranger and Roy Rogers were my favorites),and jungle adventure, Tarzan of course and Jungle Jim. Cartoons too. Would read most any comic though, well maybe not Romances.
Even found comic books about Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, and Larry Doby there, published in the early years of racial integration of major league baseball

I'm looking forward to the return of the Fantastic Four in comics, Marvel's best Science Heroes IMO. I tend to gravitate to science based comics, like Tokyo Ghost, Ghost in the Shell, Atomic Robo, Lady Mechanika, Rocket Girl, Saga and Rai.

I recently ran through American Way, but I had a hard time getting into it. It seems like it's become de rigueur to tell stories of the horrors of racist White guys and their mindless victimizing of Blacks, and it's getting tiresome... I don't see how it's furthering the cause of diversity and inclusion, it's really just turning Whites into perpetual bogeymen, which, historically, is more likely to turn them against the idea of inclusion than endear them to it.

I dunno, American Way was hardly a mainstream comicbook and it's written by the screenwriter of Twelve Years a Slave. I don't think that counts as making it de rigeur.

I am considering buying my first comic in over 25 years with William Gibson's Alien 3. Alternatively, I could wait until all issues are collected in one volume later next year. That would probably be more economical. I have no idea what an imported comic costs these days, but it can't be cheap.

Yes i was curious about that and might pick it up digitally on comixology and read it on my ipad.

I expect it will be around 4 dollars or £3.50. Not sure where you are but... 4 euros?

I was thinking of picking it up as a paper comic in the Netherlands. There is a good graphic novel & comics store nearby. Never been inside, just passed it on my bike on the way to city centre. Could perhaps take some more time for copies to arrive from the USA?

Here in the UK the copies arrive a day after release in the USA so I expect it will be the same in the Netherlands. I'd check it out at the weekend before they sell out?

I went to the shop in Haarlem I mentioned and they only sell American comics as trade paperbacks. Most of their inventory is European and some manga. I am going to wait for the release of the trade on 6 August, 2019. link

I had some time to kill so I rode my bike to Amsterdam, advantage of living in a tiny country, it had been a while since I checked out the jazz CD stores anyway, and this one comic shop had only 1 copy left, with one of the alternative covers. Price €3.60. I decided against buying it. Came home with a bunch of CDs. :p

I have just got 9 collected digital issues of Fables comics because Google Play bookstore has been pricing them 17 reais ( around 4,30 dollars ) each and I am addicted to this saga.

Getting round to the extra trades taking up space on the shelf after being bought on a whim

Finished the first Crosswind trade by Gail Simone. It's a body swap tale. I'm very meh about it- it's suffering from political correctness and trans rights. More importantly, the story's dull/ non-memorable to me. I've not read any Gail Simone for about 15 yrs (birds of prey which had the Bat family appeal). Think I'll stay clear of her other stuff for now.

Currently started on volume 1 of monstress. Beautiful art, perhaps overdone. Interesting premise but it depends how the dialogue and characterisation hold up over the next few issues.

The artist for Monstress, Sana Takeda, was exhibiting at the WorldCon Art Exhibition in Dublin this year - absolutely gorgeous, detailed paintings.
