Yeah agree on both - Band of Brothers great, The Pacific noticeably less so.

Which reminds me of the D-Day landing mission in one of the early Medal of Honor PS games, and which Spielberg also had a hand in if I remember right. I'd dig it out and have a play right now if I still had a PS.

Some charm, some well done Muslim culture, a very likeable MC with a likeable family and friends, and a cool power. Another annoyance is that even though we are supposedly in the Marvel universe, there is a government agency called the Department of Damage Control that is a big bag of dicks. This is the first time in the Marvel Universe that a government agency has been clear villains . . . and it feels cliche as hell, as well as not fitting in too well with the existing lore. In ep. 3 we get some actual villains, and their intro was seriously dumb. Overall, I can't really recommend it per se based on the 3 episodes -- well unless your a Muslim young adult -- but there is enough about it that is very well done that I'll watch a bit more.

I'm checking out after Ep. 4. It was a combo of everything that is good and bad about the series. They went to Karachi (beautiful) and we met grandma (great and likeable like most of the cast). The MC acquires a *third* boy for her reverse harem (a genius, a trained boy with latent powers, and another trained boy) the baddies reappear and some well filmed & choreographed action ensues. Unfortunately, the stupid is everywhere whenever the villains get involved. This is really a charming show in many respects, but all the stupid plus the addition of a third boy was a bridge too far for me.

I remember liking both. I was inspired to read the war memoirs of Robert Leckie and EB Sledge after watching The Pacific. Memoir Leckie’s personality struck me as being quite different in his memoir than in the series. Both memoirs are worth reading, but Sledge’s affected me more than Leckie’s. I had heard they wanted to do a third series about the air war, partially based on Donald Miller’s Masters of the Air, but haven’t heard any updates on that in recent years.

FYI: apparently MotA is in production. Found this update on Wikipedia:

“In October 2019, it was reported that Apple had made a deal with Spielberg's and Hanks's respective production companies to stream the series exclusively on Apple TV+ instead of HBO.[4] HBO confirmed that it decided not to move forward with the series in a statement.[5] Deadline Hollywoodreported the series contains ten episodes at a production cost of over $200 million, while The Hollywood Reporter said it contains nine episodes at a production cost of $250 million.[6][7] The website Footsteps Research reported the series would focus on the 100th Bombardment Group of the Eighth Air Force.”

I just started the new The Twilight Zone hosted by Jordan Peele (2019 reboot). Seems pretty good so far. I’m appreciative of an anthology series, as episodic TV was the type of thing I grew up with. It’s good to be able to pick up a episode whenever you want and not have to keep up with the overall story.
 
If you like anthology series you should check out my Twilight Tales from the Outer LImits of the Darkside journal, where I compare all the major and minor ones. There are some great ones (and some awful ones too).
 
And with appreciation to Brother Trollheart, he also had a specifically Twilight Journal, covering the first series episode by episode a year and a half ago. He got through most of the first season.

Like you, Prairie Dog, I watched episodic series regularly.
TH got me going back and rewatching the first couple of years' worth.
I enjoyed his commentary that had lots of detail that I was not familiar with. He is also such an opinionated son of a gun that on occasion I enjoyed seriously disagreeing with him.
If you have any interest or love for the old series it's worth looking at.
 
Watching Blocco 181 now. This kind of stuff never disappoints. Gripping. And thank the Great Pixie (Faeri Grosso) the subtitles are all on black borders, so even in the harsh light of day you miss nothing.
 
Is that a Cerberus deal, like the guy is meant to be the third head? Or is that just bad positioning? :D
 
Finished Blocco 181, pretty good really and leaves some scope for a possible sequel. Moved on to Norwegian crime drama Seizure. This one baffled me. It looked like they were going for a sort of supernatural idea, but in the end it seemed more like just a metaphor for secrets and guilt. Odd ending; some things were tied up but others just left more questions. And what was it with the eels? Not to mention, the title: nobody had or suffered or was experiencing any seizures, so unless the word means like fissure or crack in Norwegian, which would have made sense in the context of something that was said in the show, I'm at a loss. Sort of disappointed I'd have to say.

Now watching the serialisation of Len Deighton's seminal spy novel The Ipcress File. Good so far. Interesting, though Cold War espionage is not generally my thing (see my comments on Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy previously)...
