Just watched the first episode of the"The Old Man". Pretty good show so far. Should get farther in later tonight.
 
Watching The Undeclared War, cyber-thriller which, if it's based on real research (and I imagine it is) scares the s**t out of me. If Russia, or any other nation, can do this, be afraid. Be very afraid.

This is OK, but there are sequences where the IT specialists are working away at their keyboard doing their hacky stuff and these are illustrated for we dumb audience with little vignettes where we see them wandering around a warehouse finding things, bouncing a ball against a wall, etc. Maybe just me, but I find that silly and irritating.
 
No I thought it was good. It showed a kind of virtual world, gave a better idea of what she was doing, eg in the filing system she was looking for files on the computer, in the one where she's bouncing a ball, Great Escape-like, against the wall, she's bored as she's doing grunt work. I thought it worked well.

I do have to say I was quite depressed and a little scared that this could be the state of cyber war at the moment, and if you feel that way, don't watch The Capture, which addresses serious Deep Fakes, manipulation of CCTV and how we can be made to see things that are not there. Effing scary, man.

I’m about three episodes into the Netflix adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman and I’m liking it a lot. My favorite episode so far is the third, “Dream a Little Dream of Me” which features Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine, which seems to be a gender-swapped version of John Constantine. There’s some cool demon exorcism in this episode, and Jenna is always awesome. Thomas Sidney Sturridge does a good job of portraying Morpheus/Dream, he seems alien and detached, while still being relatable. His hair even looks right!

For those of you not familiar, it's a weird encomium to Star Trek which deliberately plots and casts a far future whose characters and behaviors are deliberately contemporary with today.
Initially I was put off by the somewhat cheesy knockoff aspects of the show, but eventually was carried by the successful attempts at humour and the good nature of the show.
The future placement and some characters are pretty outré, but all in all generally contemporary even in their exaggerations & use of salacious humor.
The last episode was an obvious attempt to tie up threads and not that good.
Seth McFarlane is the producer, head writer ,lead actor, and inspiration for the show and even though there are rumors of possible future seasons, he is now busy elsewhere and the actors have been released from their contracts.

Am a Trekkie fan and I love Orville esp. after 2nd season. Still have to catch up with the 3rd season tho. I consider Orville the spiritual successor of Star Trek TNG. And OMG I love love love Strange New Worlds.

How did you like Stein’s Gate? Have you finished it? How did you like it? I consider myself a rabid Otaku and manga fan. There are so many awesome anime series, but I prefer the circa 90s to 2000s with the hand drawn animations, fleshed out characters and mature psychological themes. If you want more anime recommendations, I would only be too happy to recommend you some of my favorites :)
 
Just finished The Time Traveler's Wife. My god what a series! I thought it would be a sort of wishy-washy love-through-time deal, and it kind of was, but such good writing! I cried a few times. So cleverly written; one of the best things I've seen in the last hour. No, seriously, this year. Easy. Highly recommended.
 
Finished The Sandman. Really, really good. Expect to see lots of the episodes/the series in the Award nominations next year. The Sound of Its Wings seems to be the episode that everyone likes especially, although I think that the episode in the diner might also be a contender.

But.... as good as The Sound of Its Wings is, I felt like I'd seen something like it before. And then it struck me - anyone else think Good Omens when we had the duo dialogue?

Anyway, finally got around to Squid Game. So far, so good, although the Dad in Episode 1 is VERY annoying, and I just kept thinking Hunger Games/Battle Royale all the way through. Expecting it to develop, though.

Probably trying She-Hulk today at some point.
 
Just finished season 1-3 of The Boys (Amazon Prime). Man, I really loved this series. It's deeply cynical, way over the top - but also very convincing in its portrayal of corporate exploitation of super heroes. (very much) not for the sensitive (in more than one sense), but highly recommended!

It does get better, but still overhyped imo.

Trailer convinced me within 5 seconds not to watch this - but perhaps the actual series is better than the advertisement :)

Well, it's billed as a comedy, which is usually problematic for me as my tastes don't seem to match what the makers regard as such... but it's OK. Never really really bad... nor essential viewing. One to watch if you're looking for something undemanding.

I love the Boys. Funny in a sarcastic, violent kind of way. I find the plot realistic, coz if people really had fame and superpowers they’d be powertrippin and be assholes for sure. I mean just look at our politicians and celebrities ;)

Just finished season 3 of DOTA Dragon’s Blood on Netflix. The story, plot and animation really improved this season. Its not on the same level as Arcane, but I still enjoyed it. More of a palate cleanser before I dive into The Sandman.
