Prompt: The Accident
Accident: an event that happens by chance or that is without apparent or deliberate cause. Often, but not always, an unfortunate accident.
Your accident might be small or huge, in our world or in another - so tell us, what happened? What are the implications? Who is it meaningful for, and why?
Word Count:
1,000 words maximum
Entry deadline: your midnight, Thursday September 26, 2024
Rules:
1) Think of a story idea that uses the prompt mentioned above and includes speculative fiction elements (fantasy, science fiction, horror elements). If an entry does not include enough speculative fiction elements for your taste, spend your votes on ones that do.
2) Write the story.
3) Edit the story.
4) Post the story in the Stories Sub-forum in a new thread with a heading that makes the thread easy to find: Eg: "July 2024 Flash Fiction Contest: Title of Story"
5) Come back here to this thread to let us know that you posted your story and provide a link to that story (which makes it easier for others to find your story when it comes time to vote).
6) You can enter multiple submissions, but if the contest receives ten submissions or more by the deadline, all participants will be limited to one entry each.
7) Read the other entries and offer comments in the story thread that help the writer of that story know what you think worked and what you think didn't work quite as well.
8) Vote when the voting poll goes up -- but you cannot vote for your own story.
9) People who have not entered the contest with a story can also vote in the contest and this is highly encouraged!
The winner of the contest will be punished--ahem! rewarded with the responsibility of starting the next flash fiction contest. Good luck to everyone!
