New Post Your Progress Thread

I wrote a few sentences for the first time in years. Next up for me is bracing myself to reread some unfinished projects that would be deeply covered in dust if they weren't stored electronically. This next task may require some liquid courage...and cheese.

Cheese is a good thing!

Well, haven't been posting on here for a while but I'm writing the second adventure of Wilva Cut-Hand, called Springtun, so will post progress. It's a low fantasy adventure story that follows on directly from Whyllmoon and I am about two chapters in. I've always found just posting progress here helps to keep me focused...

I don't think I've posted here in years, maybe even a bit shy of a decade. It's cool to see a few familiar faces are still here. In any event, I, finally, at long last am motivated to edit the five books I've written and have begun the intensive editing process on my first series. This was spurred on by a conversation I had with a UK-based author who would recommend my work to his agent once I had something worth actually putting forth. I knew I needed to get off my rear end and finally do this. I have dabbled in storyline development as recently as late last year, but hadn't actually engaged in the creative process of writing meaningfully since 2017, even though there were times I really wanted to. Life got in the way. It's good to be back.

Seeing your posts here, it seems these two threads are maybe doing similar things.
Yes, similar, but different. I kind of feel like the motivation thread is a free-for-all on what motivates.

Plus, we don't have to wade through so much to see what did I say I would do and by when? ;)

Good to see you, @Sarunus! And @Trishaxx too! It always good to reconnect with old friends. We've got a (maybe??) more regular motivation thread for 2025. Seeing your posts here, it seems these two threads are maybe doing similar things. In some ways. Anyhow, I thought I'd share the link with you both. Good to have you both back!

Thank you for the warm welcome back. I laid out some of my specific thoughts in the other one, so it's a bit similar, but....also a little different. Thank you for pointing me in that direction!

Uh, it already happened? Hmm, seems your invitation was lost in the mail, since you weren't there...

It publishes in early October!

What?

I'll look out for it in October.

By the way, here's my updated progress:
  • Finished WIP1 and got initial beta-reader feedback and...
  • I've decided to chuck it all out and start over
  • Next tasks: re-outline the story and start re-writing
  • My hope is to have a re-written draft by August 1st.
Wish me luck! :D

Whew! That's hard! Good Luck!!! Will definitely be improved with the re-write....at least that's been my experience!

Like Kenny's post on writing advice from E.B. White, writing is work. Lots of it.

I'm rewriting my WIP and I'm about a third of the way through. All is going well. I hope to have it finished by the end of the month, but that means lots of work between now and then. Along with actual work that keeps me in my writing habit. Anyway, I might have to move the goal posts. Regardless, it is moving forward. :)

Finally got my book submitted to the agent I got the referral for, and tacked on a few more queries to agents, targeted for representation on similar works. I'll wait to see what I hear, and we will go from there. Crazy stuff!

I know it'll likely be weeks, and more than likely that I won't hear anything, but I'll just keep sending out the queries and take in any feedback...AND working on polishing the second book, though with a little less urgency and craziness compared to this process.

Good luck, Sarunus! I hope you find more luck with the agent you were referred to, and the others you specifically want, than I found when querying. Then again, I didn't have a referral or a specific target agent so that didn't help me. Fingers crossed for you!
