Robert Bloch as teenager corresponded via letters HP Lovecraft via letter . They never met one another face to face. And yes , Robert Bloch was very very good at Cosmic Horror stories !

In genre horror, Robert Bloch is one the of the giants !

Under cosmic Horror would like add

Born of The Sun by Jack Williamson a really nifty Cosmic Horror related short story from one of the greats

Darker than You Think by Jack Williamson is a by far onetime greatest an influential Werewolf/ Lycanthropy novels ever written and this goes full bore in the Cosmic Horror and its very hard to put this one down once you start reading it !

Supposedly Bloch asked Lovecraft if he could use him in a story. Lovecraft replied that Bloch could “portray, murder, annihilate, disintegrate, transfigure, metamorphose, or otherwise manhandle” him in a story. Bloch wrote The Shambler from the Stars where he killed the Lovecraft like character. He even dedicated the story to Lovecraft.

Lovecraft answered with The Haunter of the Dark with a Robert Bloch character named Robert Blake who he of course kills. He even went so far as to use Bloch's current address as Blake's in the story. Lovecraft dedicated the story to Bloch.
