I know I'm going off topic, but there's a thing I'd like to share with you: some days ago I happened to watch a science program on tv. They were talking about the possibilities of human colonization in space, stating it is impossible with actual technology: the colonists - after centuries (and generations) on a spaceship would evolute in a different way than men (for example they could become some kind of apes with arms in place of legs, due to gravity absence), so today the only way we can imagine space colonization is by using robots which would activate once on the planet and do scheduled tasks, preparing (or terraforming) that world in wait for humans to come.
So they started to talk about cyborgs and that very probabily humans of next centuries will have mechanical components (surely a jack to connect their brains with computers and up/download data) and so on; at last, they came to the point this book, "Altered Carbon", remembered to me what they told. In fact they fancy a far future when a single spaceship will carry all the human consciences to the borders of space: no humans, no biological tissues, only chips or whatever will be in the future, each with a person's brain contents. No more mortal and perishable bodies...humans won't be human anymore, but they will become machines too...........scary.
The scientists were simply excited, "that day we'll defeat Death", they proudly told (they said it could be theorically possible to copy - destroying brain's biological tissues - to copy the brain contents to an informatic file), but I think instead that that day humanity will lose itself. I can't think to humans with even a single, microscopical mechanical part, let alone cyborgs: but the idea that one day we could even leave our fleshy bodies to dress cold robotic suits or become just chips...it's just a nightmare.
What do you think about?
