I've been reading this monstrosity for the past few weeks. And I have to say that this is just about the most BORING book I have ever read. (Thus the reason it's taken a few weeks). It seems all anyone is doing is saying who should marry who and having sex. I have around 130 pages left and I'm thinking of quitting it. Cause I can't take much more of this crap. Now, I loved the first two books, I'm still interested in all the characters, but this book sucks!! Now I'm sorry I paid $22.50 for it. :( Does ANYTHING else happen??? Is there a reason I should keep reading???

hehe great post!:D

Umm no doubt most people will say keep reading as the end is so great. Though if you try hard enough I tink you probably will be able to work out what that is or atleast have some idea going on Martins past ::shocks::. Have a guess:)

Boring eh? never heard Martin described that way before:cool: .

Neither do I!

This guy/gal, probably, hasn't read any Jordan books, yet! :p

Well, WoT is my favorite series. :D Actually I think I'll suffer through ASoS for the rest of the weekend at least I should finish it by then.

WOW...I thought SOS was a great read....I love the whole trilogy so far....well, keep reading., since you invested the time and money thus far..hopefully you'll come to like it!

Keep reading. When I started reading SoS it bored me also for the first 250 pages or so, but by the end I loved it just as much as the first two books.

I think you did the right thing. Why torture yourself?
If you get that far into a book and it hasn't grabbed you, pack it in. Life's too short.
I just wish I could take my own advice sometimes..

I'M BAAAA...ACK

I never quit a book halfway through. I tried to once, and shortly wound up convulsing in a puddle of my own saliva on the floor.

Woah my bad crazyreader. I thought you said you were only 130 pages INTO the book I dindt realize you were almost done. So obviously youre not going to like SoS, lol. But still, if you liked the first 2 you might as well finish it so you'll know the story going into the 4th book right? Although it looks like you'll have plenty of time to get that done. :(

BORING?

I read it in a day, ore so, and my mothertongue isn't English.
And I didn't find it boring, either

I don't get it when people talk about the "sex" in the series. I don't even notice it. It seems a natural part of the story to me.

I did read a fantasy type series once (by Cook or Cole or something???) that had some detailed sex scenes in it. And although I'm not offended by that sort of thing, I thought it had nothing to do with the story. Its like the author just wanted to write about graphic sex without furthering conflict.

I read a book on writing once that said to keep sex descriptions short (except romance novels of course) because they are the culmination of events and do not highten conflict. Its the end of something and does not hold the readers attention. So, if you write about sex keep it short or have it relate to some other aspect of the plot. Martin does this so I have no problem with it.

The only time he goes into detail about sex is with Tyrion, which is totally in the spirit of the character.

I thought Feist was the best writer until I read Jordan, then I read Martin and he's my fav author. I thought it couldn't get better than GoT, but then CoK was as good if not better. After a break I started SoS and I'm not far into it, but it's even better than the last two. However, it's hard to choose which book is best really, since they're all extremely high quality. Hope Feast continues the quality.

I can't believe you found aSoS boring! I read it straight through, and I definately did not think it was boring! I did however get slightly frustrated because every chapter I would get into the character and then the chapter would end and Martin would switch characters... then I had to wait for the next chapter on that character. Of course this happened with pretty much every character in every chapter, so I wasn't ever bored. In fact, it's probably a good ploy on Martin's part because it kept me wanting to read more... and I still do! I can't wait for the next book to come out!

I hear ya Pluvious.

My adopted response to them is that I found Tigana to be -~DAMN~- kinky in some parts, but I haven't heard anyone around here complain about GGK being too graphic.

(this guy loves his Kay btw)

umm... I was too busy wanting to slaughter all things Frey to be bored with ASoS, at the point where I might have gotten bored with such deliberations, I was amusing myself thinking about the Hound slaughtering his damn brother. and Daenerys slaughtering everyone. Then the sweet epilogue came up and I went back to the Freys. :D

The character I'm most looking forward to in Feast though is Bran. He's FINALLY on the other side of the Wall! I really want to know who's gonna teach him, wtf happened to Benjen, and being a "winged wolf" implies. Also, reading about him dominating Melisandre would be pretty sweet. "Burn my dad's trees, will ya biotch?"
