Longtime lurker, second time poster. With apologies for the self-promotion, I wanted to plug a book I just self-published on Amazon. Not sure if it's any good, but it was a labor of love for ~2 years and the first time I've ever completed a book-length story. Big props to the writers out there who put out novels regularly. I don't know how you do it. Anyways, here's a brief description of how my story came about + its plot (if you're interested!):

I had an image seared into my mind awhile back involving a semi-sentient machine wandering a barren landscape, searching for something. I didn't really know what it was about, but I had this ongoing compulsion that was making me flesh out the story behind it. The story centers around a couple important plot points: 1) in the future, a disease has wiped out mankind's cognition, reverting us into animalistic creatures called "revins" 2) machines / drones play a big part in the fate of humanity and are at odds with the revins 3) one machine in particular, called the sentinel, is searching for a survivor to the plague 4) there are only a handful of places in the world where a survivor could be, and the sentinel is on its way to one of those places - but it has to hurry because 5) violence is threatening to disrupt the sentinel's objective

While the story is only ~55k words, I tried to imbue some weighty topics that fascinate me including: 1) interpretation of biblical & Native American mythology 2) sentience and what it means to be cognizant 3) good vs. evil and 4) destiny and what is "out there" beyond our perception.

I didn't set out to make money off the story (mainly just did it because I like telling a story) soooo for anyone who buys the book between now and June 2014, I'm donating all the proceeds to the Red Cross. It's only $5. You can lend it if you buy it and there is a free preview. It's only available on Kindle currently (or via download to a Kindle reader on your iPad or iPhone) but I plan to make it available on iOS later and perhaps as a physical version. Thanks for your time - link to the book below :)

Good luck! I like the cover. Very clean, rather than the usual 'alien dragon piloting a spaceship towards a planet'.
