Are there any good fantasy books....

Angels as lovers? Considering that the Roman Catholic church considers homosexuality to be a sin, that's going to be out of the question without a second's thought.

I don't know if they were actually lovers, Manticore, but I certainly got the impression they were in love.

Wouldn't bother me if they were - between two consenting adults (or ethereal beings ;) nothing's abnormal!

I read (I think it was) a Le quin book

I do seem to remeber that it left me a bit cheesy. A lot of erected penises doing to works.

I have to behonest
can´t remeber the name of the precise book and can´t remeber if it was homosexual , but it seems to have stuck on my mind, as it was the first thing that came up , after reading your posting

Maybe someone else here can help with the precisie name of the book.

Thank you very much for all the replies. It really helped knowing that there is in fact gay fantasy literature out there.

Just b/c the Roman Catholic church doesn't approve of homosexuality doesn't mean that a fantasy author can't write about homosexual angels. Afterall, it is fantasy. The very idea that literature should be hindered by the doctorine of a church is pretty absurd.

just to clear one thing up,
The Roman Catholic church does approve of people being homosexual, they just don't approve of homosexuals acting on their feelings.

don't get me wrong I in no way agree with their frame of mind, but I just wanted everyone to understand where The Catholic church stands.

as vikingking ducks, a vast variety of sharp objects whizz by his head.

hey, sam had dozens of kids! c'mon!

There is nothing to say that ol' Samwise didn't "change teams". Not that there is anything wrong with that! *ducks again after briefly poking his head up*

*Throws heavy, metal object at VikingKing*

I've never seen any evidence that Sam and Frodo were gay.

changed teams? no evidence, but hypothetically, yeah, thats true. he did have a crush on galadriel, though. all those hobbit-lass like a daffodowndilly speeches.

so, viking, in case youre having fond visions of love-fests in the wastes of mordor, stop.

yeah, nearly all of tolkiens characters are male. but he was married and had 3(?) kids.

of course, he could have 'changed teams' too, as you put it.

for good measure, am throwing more sharp, heavy objects at vikingking

This is great! There is also the Rand & Lan relationship. Lan taught him to "face it on [his] feet, not cring[ing]". Perhaps the Shadow is a metaphor sexual intolerance, and Lan's life-long struggle is really for acceptance of man-young man love while on the run. His relationship with Nynaeve may be read as Lan's transcendence over the narrow-minded sexual roles he was forced to endure in his childhood in Malkier(?). His relationship to Moirane is platonic (she is no Green!) and Lan is a man...and he has his needs! Enter the Dragon (Reborn)!

OK, I can't go on........fun, though :) Enter the Dragon...I kill myself!

Actually I tink Vikingking has some serious problems to be able to even think about Lan and Rand in that way. Same goes for the frodo-sam thing.

Mercedes Lackey Valdemar books are fall of gay characters and about half of the books have gay hero's the rest having women leads exept the one about Skif the theif who I beleive is straight but I haven't read that one so Iam not sure.
Also some of her hero's are not human (griffins if I remember some of them are gay as well) Looking back on it the Heralds of Valdemar are pretty weird books I never noticed why I was reading them.

Try Constantine's Magravandian trilogy. Somewhat lighter than the rather extreme wraethru books. I think Anne Bishop has gay characters as well, could be wrong.

Fiona Patton has a series (one of the books is called "" Stone prince") with two main gay leads. Qin already mentioned Ricardo Pinto. Actually I've seen several books with main gay characters.

There's also Kirith Kirin by Jim Grimsely, check it out on Amazon. While you're there, also see the other links Amazon posts (on your Kirith Kirin page), they often contain links to other books with gay themes.

..containing gay relationships? I'm gay, and although I absolutely love for example The Wheel of Time and the relationships between the men and women there, I'm wondering if there are any good fantasy books that has gay people included. I doubt it, but if anyone can prove me wrong, please do.

China Mieville's Iron Council does. It isn't the focus of the novel, but one of the main storylines has a gay couple in (Judah Low and Cutter).

Did you guys know that Loras Tyrell the Knight of Flowers is gay? Together with his patron Renly? There's a long thread in the Martin forum which I thought to be absurdly funny until someone posted an interview with Martin himself, in which he explicitly stated that those two are gay.

There's also a pretty exciting gay love scene in American Gods by Neil Gayman.
