Steven Brust new book Dzur

For those that don't know the next Vlad Taltos novell is coming out in August I believe. I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, so I thought I would mention it.

I like his Vlad Taltos novels quite a bit. This newest one is part of the SciFi Essentials deal between Tor and the SciFi channel. Good for Brust, hopefully this will bring him some wider recognition.

Does that mean they're making a movie out of the Taltos series?

Edit: Oh no, wait, it just means they'll promote it. Which is great. Interesting that Tor snagged an exclusive on that deal.

I'm going to have to go back over the series and figure out which of the last ones I didn't read, because I lost track, and then I can catch up and read the new one.

I second that Arterial Spray, though I thought a few of the later books in the series wavered a bit Brust seemed right back on track with the last one; very much looking forward to seeing the story continued.

Quick, must mop up the drool from the floor. I am always happy when there is a new Taltos book.

What do you think Steven Brust's best works are? The Taltos series? The Phoenix Guards?

Or standalones like To reign in hell, Agyar, Brokedown Palace or The Gypsy?

Please state why :)

The one I'm reading currently.

I like all of them but for different reasons. Taltos series is the one that got me hooked on Brust so it's sort of the best. Also, I like the characters in it better than others except that some of the same characters are in the Phoenix Guard series, too. I adore the main characters Vlad and Loiosh for their sarcastic humour and wittyness.

The Phoenix Guard gives the historical background to the Taltos series and is so much swashbuckling fun that I can't help but to like it. Also, more Morrolan!

Freedom and Necessity is awesome because of the historical setting and being totally character driven.

To Reign in Hell is good because it has angels which are different from the Christian or Islamic point of view and has very good dialogue.

Alas, I haven't been able to get any of his other stand alones.

I really enjoy the Taltos books quite a bit. Some are a bit better than others, but on the whole, I enjoy the humor, feel of the series, and the god-like races. When I was reading Lynch's Lies of Locke Lamora, I was reminded of the Taltos books.

To Reign n Hell was pretty good, too.

I read his story in Thieve's World - Enemies of Fortune titled "The Man from Shemhaza." (It won Year's Best Fantasy Story" I believe.) Excellent story! Has me interested in pursuing his other works.

I've never heard of Steven Brust...Can someone give me a rundown of good and bad things about his writing?

VLAD TALTOS by Steven Brust :)

I would like 2 recommend this books... Not 2 hard, interesting, and i love the way Steven Brust writtes...

books in some way remind me of "heroes die" but much more censored version, without 2 much what some would like to call "unecessery writting" and others love...

Well there aren't really any books to compare to "heroes die" in their style just like Malazan books, but there are some simmilarities...

Vlad is an contract assasin, who is sometimes more like a private eye or sherlock holmes which reminds me a bit about cain,,,he is thrown in some nasty situations where he has to constantlly use his sharp mind 2 stay alive...he has tremendes stranght of will when he is in trouble and survives by pure stuborness not 2 die... something like harri( rmember big fight) :)

of course similarities are very few compared 2 the differences ...

Books are not in cron. order but timeline of writting shows improvement in authors work...
