Best sci-fi Tv series

as much as i hate to admit to myself, jessica alba will probably not be doing playboy. especially since she's engaged to michael weatherly, or logan, on dark angel.

FARSCAPE Has to win it. Horny Blue Aliens evolved from Fawna!!! Quality.

I'm with Estranghero, FF and the others: How can anyone NOT say
FARSCAPE!!

The only thing that puts me off Farscape is the muppets
I just can't take it as a real show (even though the story lines are) .Every time I try to watch it I feel like I'm watching something my kids should be watching

my vote goes to Enterprise
I love the way they make it real with things breaking down and not going well all the time, especially how no-one wants to travel in the teleport machine:D that just kills me

HA, the best ever was and is Quark! It aired in the 70's :o

Oh man, I love Enterprise!!!

I remember when I was growing up loving Doctor Who.

I remember liking Space 1999 when it first came out and later Blakes 7 was my favourate.

I never saw Star Trek when growing up (it was'nt shown on our local stations)

More recently I would say that Star Trek - Next Generation was the best

1 Star Trek the Next Generation
2 Blake's 7
3 The Later ST Voyager series (with Seven of Nine)
4 Dr Who
5 Farscape
6 Battlestar Galactica
7 Red Dwarf

Honourable Mentions:
Starhunter
Enterprise
Babylon 5
ST TOS
Lexx
Prisoner(not bad for awhile, but eventually falls into the "never going anywhere" feeling.
Lost in Space (still makes me laugh sometimes...has some good ideas in patches, and works, esp for kids).

Notes:
I knew the Bab5 spinoff was gonna sink like lead the moment I read the first concept outline. It just was set up so that it wasn't going to go anywhere imo.

The studio that wanted to kill the successful Battlestar Galactica finally succeeded with Battlestar Galactica 1980, by having it reach contemporary Earth, and kicking out Apollo and Starbuck and Cassiopaiea, introducing some stupid superkid, and lots of cheesy storyline.

Lexx was ok (the first of the 4 telemovies was excellent imo) but they also threw away the show imo with series 4 coming to contemporary Earth and going schlok comedy...a few chuckles but...gawd.

Max Headroom - rather awful "comedy", though the "pilot" (actually a serious sf telemovie made sometime after or during the series) was rather good.

Does Eastenders count as Sci Fi?
I guess not. Anyway my all time favourite is Babylon 5 with the Shadow war. And Kosh.
Even my wife, who dislikes SciFi watched B5 and that's a big occasion...............

Absolutely has to be Babylon 5! No question, beyond a shadow of a doubt. Granted, season 5 was problematic, and the first season was warm up (though still good). But seriously folks, the 2nd and 3rd seasons were AMAZING!

Now, STNG had some incredible episodes , but not whole seasons to compare to B5. Also, I STNG had some great characters (you have to love Patrick Stewart and Picard); indeed Generation had probably better acting and characters than B5. But B5 still rules.

Thanks for listening,

Someguy

ps Honorable mention to Jessica Alba from Dark Angle for begin so downright delectable:D Hottest Sci-Fi babe ever.

better characters in next gen? no, just, no. I;ve watched them all god knows how many times now, as many times as they've been on the Beeb plus a few for key episodes which we have on video.
This is how I see it, though obv this is just my opinion:

Picard, Worf, Data, Barclay, Guinan(sp?): Great character, brilliant acting, just great
Riker, Geordie, Crusher: solid characters, but not greatly interesting, well acted and everything and Riker is borderline with the great, but i dont think they're given enough room to shine
Tasha Yar, Deanna Troi: Bar about 2 episodes and the films (for Troi) these characters suck and could have dropped out of the series without anyone noticing.

Did i miss anyone?

Conversely every character in Babylon 5 would go in the top category for me, except Sinclair during season 1, just didnt do it for me I'm afraid, but he aint bad, he'd only be in the second group.

why are you guys even arguing about what show is best. it's dark angel, hands down, nothing can defeat jessica alba, don't even try.

Shimrod, yeah, Kosh was a superb character.

The shadow war: several very, very good episodes in that arc, let down only by the suddenness of it finishing (great buildup, great suspense and action, then, what? It's over? That's it? Darn :( ).

As a series I'd put B5 in the "must see" category.

It doesn't make my top list really only because, for me (and I stress, for me), it doesn't hold up as well as my top 7 in the re-watchability stakes.

What I mean is: "Hmmm nothing on, what am I gonna watch for a couple of hours? I'll throw a tape/dvd in the machine and spend the time watching some eps of..."

To really get the most out of the really good eps of B5 imo you need to also watch a few not so good eps (with a couple of exceptions) that have important stuff (for the really good eps) in them.

There were a couple of shows that started of promising but just disappeared Earth2 & Above and Beyond .

I think that was their names , did they continue anywhere else? or did they get so crap they scrapped them?

Yeah, the pilot of Earth2 was good (and having The Kergin in another good role gave it great promise).

Sadly, I think they had D-grade writers or something. The series fell into boredom pretty quickly. Pity...I think it could have been a reasonable show.

So many promising shows end up on the heap!

The thing that really bugs me about sci-fi tv is the tv programming where they start a show in an early time slot then it is automatically shunted to late night viewing the week after.

Little chance for any show to rate well when they shove it on in the middle of the night !

They did that with Roswell over here in Oz, but some fans in the US stopped it from getting cancelled after the first season (good work!)

Thankfully Smallville has started well, cause it rocks.

I don't even want to think about all the series they've cancelled that I loved. Dark Skies, VR5, Earth 2, Above & Beyond, B5, Roswell, Dark Angel, they all get cancelled! I know that Dark Skies got weird towards the end, but... I loved it. I loved him. Ah, how I drooled.

Anyway.
At the very, very top of my list - Dr. Who. I grew up on that, every Saturday my dad and I stayed up until midnight and recorded it onto Beta tape. We've got almost every episode, I think we're missing about 12.
I loved the Lexx movies (1-4) and hated everything that came after.
I really enjoyed Above & Beyond, but the series ending was just terrible. They must have got word of the cancellation days before filming the finale, it was so hastily tied up.
I also enjoyed Earth: Final Conflict.
As far as current shows go, Farscape, hands down. I love that show. With an abiding love. Oh please, please, please don't let that show be cancelled.
Andromeda is a close second, though, because who wouldn't like Hercules as a space captain!

My favorite show ever, though, is Buffy. It's not sci-fi, I know, but I had to put that in there.
