Confessions of a GRR Martin Avoider...

This has prevented me from being able to get into Prince of Thorns on my first try, but I'm going to try it again soon because I see so many rave reviews of it and it seems like it has many of the same elements found in much of my favorite fantasy lit.

Yeah, I definitely plan on it, I just have a couple of other books I want to finish first. I don't care about getting mildly spoiled, I'd rather know that there's a good reason for it being the way it is and that there's potential for payoff before I jump in again, which you provided.
 
At the risk of raising old discussions, I thought that this was a useful summary of what GRRM has been doing in the last 16 years NOT finishing the next Game of Thrones novel. I have been of the opinion for a few years now that the series will not be finished in his lifetime, although there is a wealth of unpublished material that may appear later. He is 77.

And don't forget, he's an executive producer on the "Dark Winds" TV show; even had a cameo on it last year with another executive producer, Robert Redford.
 
There's no doubt he's been busy, but not on what fans are waiting for. Or at least nothing published. I'm sure that there's hundreds of pages of unpublished GoT material, but...
