Do you ever Find Yourself Falling In Love With Fictional Characters ?

You open book step into story you read the page, you either become the main character or the observer of the observe character .In the time you reading story you are inset part of the story but , you don't have power to change the outcome , your not Ringmaster of the universe all you do do is follow the preordained track to wherever thing end up . But on that track ,you share the battles , triumphs and tragic loses . Yes , you know their actions and out come are locked but even so you become so invested in them that you care about what happens to them. Most reader do in fact maintain their real world perspective(. and know the difference between reality and fiction and some, get lost to the point were they never climb out. Sometimes I find myself wishing I could step into story and save a doomed beloved character .but to do would change and comprise the story integrity. Now, which stories would you like to change the outcome of favorite character or characters and how would you change it, . and who are your most beloved characters and why ?

All the time! I read The Golden Compass as a kid, back when it first came out, and totally fell in love with Lyra as a character (not romantic love! jeez!). Then I forgot the book's title, the author's name, and my family moved to a new city and I was starting high school and... 8 years passed before I encountered the series again, entirely by accident as a college friend was reading The Golden Compass and I happened to see it on his dorm room desk as a group of us headed out to dinner. I was so ecstatic that I couldn't stop talking about it for the rest of the night. I read that first book, then the second was so disappointing as the POV changed, moving away from Lyra. The rest of the series is good, but so different from Lyra who I'd loved and connected so strongly with.

Still happens now, decades later. I read Mark Lawrence's "Book of the Ancestor" trilogy a few years ago and totally connect with the MC there, but while I like his "Thorns" series I can't connect with Jorg. I could go on and on, but I'll stop there.
