Hi my name is ShadowCraft, kinda because it's my the production company. So far we've tackled Documentaries and Short films and we're in the process of working up several of these types of ideas, amoung them though we are scripting adaptions for Fiest's "Magician" and Gemmel's "Waylander".
We are hoping to make these ideas a reality and it really just depends which one gets through in the end.
But till then i wanted to alert some fans and give you this list - its the list of actors that i've been asked to choose as my perferred cast. Not all will be possible. - And obviously this production still has to obtain funding but so far this is my preferred cast list i want to know what the fans think of it and what you guys would like to see.
Because there are things that are just mentioned in the book that have to be fully shown in a movie adaptation, we have to add some stuff. so i'd like to know what, if you were watching this, would you be looking forward to or looking out for?
Cheers.

Preferred Cast List
(not concrete as funding and filming etc. haven't been started yet. These are the actors i would choose if i had unlimited funding, Hopefully i'll get some of these people.)

Waylander - Gerard Butler
Dardalion - Hayden Christensen
Danyal - Ellen Pompeo
Gellan - Taye Diggs

Sarvaj - Ewan McGregor
Johnat - Karl Urban
Vanek - Darren Morfitt

Cadoras - Christian Bale
Macas - Nathan Jones

Hewla - Emma Cleasby

Durmast - Tyler Mane

Karnak - Brendan Gleeson
Kaem - Patrick Stewart
Egel - Sean Bean

Orien - Liam Neesen

Let me know what you think.
Thanks.

Hayden bloody Christianson....

Are you f&*king taking the proverbial?

i don't know who a lot of them are, im afraid! and you'v cast a lot of the bigger names as the smaller parts (well i can't remember who some of the other characters were, so i am guessing they were smaller!)

so um, sorry, no. i can't see any of those people (those i know) as those you cast! but i hope it happens. me liked waylander :)

reply

Hayden was one of the few i could see making the character work well, though i know what you mean i went through some ify periods went looking at the cast.

If you don't know the actors copy their names into google or imdb.com

Anyway since i posted this i've been looking at it more critically and i've reworked it.
Like i said earlier though they are my preffered. I think that this may work out better.
Remember though the shorter the part the less i have to pay them - its like any other job you pay them for their time. Though that's not a reason to cast someone.

New Cast List:
Waylander (The Assassin) - Gerard Butler
Dardalion (Abbot of the original THIRTY) - Hayden Christensen
Danyal (The woman who falls for Waylander) - Ellen Pompeo
Gellan (Waylanders old friend from military days) - Taye Diggs

Sarvaj (Gellan's Advisor and right hand) - Alexander Siddig
Johnat (Gellan's Unhappy Successor) - Karl Urban
Vanek (The friendly soldier) - Frank John Hughes

Cadoras (The man sent to kill Waylander) - Christian Bale
Macas (Cadoras's Right Hand) - Michael Cudlitz

Hewla (The prophetess who predicts Waylander's Fate) - Raelee Hill

Durmast (The man who schemes betray Waylander) – Michael Clark Duncan

Karnak (Second in command of all Drenai forces) - Brendan Gleeson
Kaem (Vagrian Supreme Commander) - Patrick Stewart
Egel (Supreme Commander of all Drenai forces) - Sean Bean

Orien (The old king who originally owned the Armour of Bronze) - Liam Neesen

If you have any suggestions, feel free to throw them at me.
Cheers.

Is this for real?

I think I'd move Sean Bean up into the part of Waylander, remembering his role as Sharpe.

I notice in a previous thread, that you intend to kick LOTR's backside with these movies...

Interesting.

I would love it, if you were straight-up, as Waylander is one of my favorite Gemmell characters and it certainly would make a dark movie. But I can't help being a little cynical when someone appears and says 'Hi my name is Shadowcraft...' and then drops some of the biggest names in hollywood for their as-yet unwritten script. Plus, not sure how you are going to get those names or kick LOTR's backside when you have made a couple of documentaries and some short films.

Sorry for being cynical, what's your real name and what are the documentaries and short films you have made? Who else is working on the script, who is funding these projects, who is producing them... otherwise, you aren't really creating publicity, you're being unrealistic... at least in the sense that members will take it seriously.

Also, it's unusual for the script writer to cast, especially before the script has been written... I appreciate you have a production company and so may do things differently.

If you are legit, more power to you...

I don't see Butler as Waylander. If you can get Russell Crowe for your Feist movie, I think you can do better for Waylander, especially considering the names in the supporting cast.

Drop Anakin from the cast, that will damn the movie before it gets going.

Plus you've got two cast members from LOTR, three from Star Wars and two from X-Men and Batman no less...

That wouldn't happen.

You criticized somebody in your Magician thread for basically re-cycling the LOTR cast. Come on!

dont' relly want to have to google to find out who people are. to me, who they are doesn't matter, just saying as i don't know them i can't comment on how good they would be.

of course, the fact i don't know them means other people may not, which means people who like to see a big name ina film may not want to see it because they don't there there are any

...

God thats a lot of replys...
if there is anyone on this thread who is involved in media you may understand this better.
Media - in anything is draft after draft after draft. And what you start out with is a script or idea that is beyond realistic. You pick and write what you would prefer to see. Then as time goes on you slowly ground it down to reality. The names up there are just my most long-shot, hail mary, wish it would happen list.
As time goes on it'll be ground down.

The docs etc that i've mentioned are just the stuff i've done as the director that's why i've said "i've done" rather that "we did" or "i was involved with".

As for what i've done infringing with my chances: have you ever seen constantine - the director had only ever done a collect of music videos. Same with King Arthur's director - he had only done music videos then he did training day with denzel washington.

All i've ever done is create or get together an idea, solidify its foundation, look for funding and then start work on it. That's how it works with independant production companies. ShadowCraft is my companies name.
Its run by me and a couple of others. Then we get an idea - then funding - then a crew etc.

As for ripping off cast members - in the previous thread the guy i was talking to filled his ideal cast with actors from lotr bar 1. Lets face it if you don't want to take cast members from some other film, you are gonna have a bunch of people that are new and that the public have never heard of before.

Gerard Butler's one of my favourite actors like gleeson he seems to change very seriously between films becoming the character. I.E. phantom of the opera - took me a while to realise he was the lead. Yipes.

Anakin - who would you cast - i'm seriously asking - out of anybody - who would you pick? Although he did kill darth for me, not quite as all powerful truly evil character anymore.

As for kicking lotr ass - i'm talking where i'm aiming. You never aim to be less than something. And at the end of the day LOTR left me in an odd way, Narnia worked because it was written as a fairytale and filmed as one. LOTR is written as fantasy but there is a reality to it, a realism, that i don't find jackson accomplished. Not to put him down i really like what he's done. But i feel like he never really did it for me.

Finally - as for scripting: this i'm scripting alone with some advice from other friends and fans, magician was a joint project between me and two others. Magician is going quite well but waylander is taking some time to get off to a start with me doing the other one.
And as far as funding goes - u can't get funding till you have a good idea of the project and its always been my way to produce at least part of a script first.

The reason i use this forum is it connects me to real fans, people who enjoy and view things alot like i do. I wanted - like magician - to get the sense of the land - "is there a chance of getting a good fan base for this if i want to do it?" Your audience is all important - no audience for your movie and noone will fund you in a million years.
Plus i'm excited as anyone would be to not just have the chance to one day see this project but to be part of it. I needed to vent some of that.

...LONG MESSAGE... I hope this makes some (if any) sense and knowing what the audience like about a story helps me to target the audience and secure its value (as best as can be).

Sorry for the message length. Cheers. Oh and i'm Chris. Can't give much more info about myself though, as i did that once and we got hacked badly - we have our work pcs disconnected from the internet now as a result but its a damn inconvience.
Anyway...

What specifically have you actually done - names and titles please. You have to let the cat out of the bag with all the details when you get the ball rolling, and it's not like you are concerned about anyone stealing your thunder because you have announced your intentions to the world already.

I'm with Juzzza - a little cynical. The problem of the internet is always one of credibility. Few people would want to be the object of mirth of someone who could turn out to be a pimply faced school kid having a giggle. If you want people to get behind you, give us a little something to believe in.

Shadowcraft...

What you're actually saying is, you haven't been commissioned by a film company or an author to write the script based on their novel. You are just doing it. That's akin to fan fiction.

You have no funding.

You have no crew.

You have no cast.

Whether you intended to or not, you have given the impression that you are making the movies, with an amazing cast.

As a moderator here, I am giving you a warning. Do not make these allegations please as we take them very seriously.

Had you started a thread asking members who they would cast if x was made into a movie, fine. Had you claimed to be writing a script (as an amateur) and would like to know who should be cast (if the sky was the limit), fine.

But you have not done that.

I would also point out that we log IP addresses, and we know where you are accessing SFFWORLD from, that's not a threat by the way, just that certain IPs are logged to institutions or companies.

I would love to write a script for Star Wars Episode 7, but I wouldn't join a forum and suggest the movie is in production and I am trying to promote it with the fans. Anyone can write a script, especially if you are studying film at university.

And going from directing a music video for the likes of Aerosmith, Britney Spears and Will Smith to directing Constantine is slightly different to directing some student documentaries and short films and then going on to make a big budget version of Waylander. And Antoine Fuqua, who directed King Arthur, has done videos for Coolio, Stevie Wonder and Prince, and has won awards for doing so. Feel free to name-drop any projects you have 'worked on' as well as those you have directed or written the script for.

This is a site for fans of genre fiction, movies and much, much more, please don't insult our intelligence.

Wow...
give me a mo so my balls can recover from that one.

Have you ever known anyone or been involved with independants before?
There's a hell of a lot to do just to start. Independants don't get commission all the time, i've only been commission a few times the rest of the time i've had to bring ideas to other people's attention.
I haven't said anything about us currently filming so i wouldn't understand why people would assume we were.

the IP thing - whether you meant it to or not did sound like a threat.

I've picked up 2 books that i really enjoyed and decided to start something with them. In the end i might get refused by gemmel or feist and i do believe i've mentioned at least twice that the filming was years away if i got it.

Friendly, you can really bring someone down. That's kinda s****y.

If people have taken something from this that wasn't there its their interpretation but i sorry if i cause hassle.

Media is difficult enough and i've tried using this forum to see that i'm not just wasting my time with what i'm trying to do, which was already expressed in a previous message. I'm surprised i'm getting this s*** for it.

If you want to feel your intelegence is insulted - that's your choice. I haven't tried to take anyone for a ride and in my job you have to take chances every once in a while or you'll be doing the same type of things continually.

Never have i said it was in production, nor have i said i'm trying to promote it, i'm trying to get feedback so i don't work my ass off to find out the audience is 12 pimply students in a shack somewhere.

With Antoine Fuqua, you're absolutely right, i was just trying to make a point.

At the end of the day i'm out doing the work i love doing, hard as s*** sometimes, but its fun. And if you'd prefer i discontinued the use of this forum, that's okay.

Cheers for the otherwise fun feedback.
Bye.

Hi, i haven't used this forum before but i'm trying to spread publicity so as to get info from Feist readers to help me produce a script that does justice to the book.

I'm not getting into a debate about the way you have portrayed your projects in your posts. However, going around the forums posting with headings such as 'SHADOWCRAFT FILM GROUP WORKING ON SCRIPTS' and so on and so forth is misleading.

Feel free to continue using this forum however, this thread is closed... and please refrain from swearing in your future posts.
