This is my first thread so bare with me if i make any mistakes. I'm in the middle of re-reading the Sword of Truth series and I was interested in what everyone else thought of him. Personally I think that the first three books were great but that it all kind of went downhill from there.

Thats very reassuring. It is good to know that I'm not alone in that opinion, the only person Ive discussed it with was very defensive of Goodkind. Except of course for the last one, I havent read it yet, but even he complained about that one.

I'm pretty much of the same opinion as you, Danen. Books 1 and 2 of the SoT series were really good, and book 3 was okay, but after that the series lost direction and focus. I only made it about halfway through Faith of the Fallen and then just gave up in boredom and disgust.

Richard, like Rand and many of the characters from the WoT series, because very very irritating after a couple books.

Too bad. Pretty interesting world.

Well since I get insulted enough daily with out hearing it from idiots that don't know me just forget I ever commeted I really don't care!

personally I think you have to read the books ignorantly, trying to ignore his ideas that make no sense at all

Then why bother reading them at all?

I would personally recommend that if you have not read the book already to skip Faith of the Fallen. The book does not concern Richard or Kathlan. While he is an excellent writer the books simply does not measure up to his usually high standards. If you like Goodkind you will also like Marget Weis and Tracey Hickman as well.

Umm.........are you sure you mean 'Faith of the Fallen', jbc? Cos iirc it's the latest one, 'The Pillars of Creation ', that features different characters. Actually, it's not that bad a story - but it's pointless if all you want if to read more on R and K. (Personally, at this point, it was quite a relief to be shot of them!!)

Goodkind was gorgeous in his first 3 books, then he fell. The 4th and 5th were craps. The last two aren't that bad, but aren't in the rank of the first either.
However, I like Terry more than the very-popular-in-sffworld-forum Martin.

Well I would but I kind of like to read each series whole, if not in sequence. Personally though I think that Goodkind is stalling, really there isn't much left to the story, and by the sounds of things he still has a few books to go.

I read somewhere that Goodkind stated his intention to keep writing for as long as ppl keep buying...

My cats pretty fat and my pretzels now have cat hair in them. Im not sure if i should dump them all or just try to pick out the hairs (cant waste good pretzels).

Oh ya, that pillars of blah blah blah was horrible.

That really is a scary thought, cause you know people wont stop buying them, ad we will all end up reading crap

well we could have hoped for scruples as well, I mean to go off the track for an entire book just to keep the series going, is a little annoying. I say he should cut his losses, end the series and go on to something else.
