Gunslinger ...

i know about the series .. BUT ... are these books stand alone within a series, or do all books need to be read. Does each book give closure?


I wanted to read book 1, but i really cannot if it wont work as stand alone.

Any advice most appreciative

The first book works offers a great sense of closure. The second book drops off right in the middle of a major scene. Then the third offers a descent amount of closure, and the 4th(best book in the series) also does a pretty good job of distributing closure at the end. The series will be reaching its conclusion very soon, I really encourage you to begin the series, in my opinion it's a milestone, and it's simply the best stuff I've ever read.

The only thing that has yet to be disclosed, is the journey to the Dark Tower, and this is what the whole series centers around. The journey to the Dark Tower, kind of the nexus of the universe, and something is seriously wrong at the Tower, so Roland the last gunslinger of Gilead sets off on his journey, one thing that makes the journey so long and difficult is that Roland's world is growing, what once was a mere 200 miles, has now turned into over a 20 year journey....Go Read This Book!

Gunslinger may just work for you as a standalone but I doubt it, the ending leads onward so if you can not be curious and accept it as an ambiguous ending then it would be worth it.

okay thanks for info guys! i have the first three books on MP3 unabridged audio so may listen to it.

I've read the short story in the legends book by the way and I thought it was very interesting!

isnt there another darktower shortstory? have you read everythings eventual? im fairly certain another darktower shortstory is there too.

oo no I have not read that. I will check it out and see what is in it, I know it did have a short story on his ebook only release. I was in half a mind to reda that short story to see what it is all about.

The Little Sisters of Eluria first appeared in the Legends anthology a few years back. Also, Low Men in Yellow Coats the first story in Hearts in Atlantis is a DT tale.

How many total volumes will be in the Dark Tower?

A grand total of 7. Highly unusual for King to create a series, so it's a real treat. Makes me wish he spent a little more time creating epics.
