How Big Are Your Libraries?

Oh way too big I bought a bookcase and filled it up instantly and now have no room for my new books ... I buy what I can as cheap as I can so I have incomplete sets though I managed to get all of WoT and all Shannara books plus a HUGE Star Wars collection as well - I'm sad I know but I can't walk past "Book Sale" without having a peek :)

Quality over quantity, right? :)

ive about 53, but im constantly finding more around the house, or people return borrowed books to me...so maybe over 65 or so.....but ive got some good ones....(or...i think so....)

I have well over 500 books. My basement is wall to wall bookshelves. It is 50% fantasy/sci-fi, about 40% non-fiction/history/biography and 10% other.

I have probably read 70% of it all, so it is great to just browse my basement sometimes when I am in a reading rut. I also have alot of books in circulation. Friends are always coming over and walking out with a handful of books. I just got Deadhouse Gates in the mail today, put in on the top of my to read pile, went to start it and it was gone already. I guess I will read Heroes Die instead.

About 60 fantasy books, and about 10 historical novels + about at least 50 other books....

Should really organize them a bit better so I would know how many I got... :D

I'm not sure completely sure, but I guess there should be at least a bit more than 50 books...

Hmm.... I have about a hundred fantasy books, and several hundred others consisting of classics, fiction, non-fiction and science. :)

I'm actually writting a reading log program that stores it in SQl - it will be avalible free when I finish it - I mu=ight add an area for a "book shelf" area - plus maybe a library function so you can record who has the book when they borrow it - this is when I get some holidays though :)

Ummm pretty sure I have more than 50 less than 70. I don't have a book shelf, so they end up on the shelfs in my wardrobe or in boxes in the garage. I have 2 books to-be-read - that is all :(

Great to know that I'm not the only idiot out there that buys books, even though I own a bunch that I have not read yet.

I have about 250 books; maybe 50 of them unread. Maybe about 40% Fantasy and science Fiction (although that percentage has been decreasing of late), 30% Historical Fiction, and 30% other.

He can speak for me. I'm an idiot. Still buying books, still getting that warm fuzzy feeling after buying books. Still have 20-30 books sitting on my shelves that I haven't read.

(By the way, I still search Amazon and B & N online daily and it takes all my will power not to order more books that I find.)

I can't say it any better. Well said. :)

Upstairs I counted 469 books, a large mixture being that of fantasy. Downstairs in the basement, you can add another 600 or so books, which brings the total of books over a thousand. Sheesh! Maybe I can open a small used bookstore?

Wow! That is the kind of accumulation I hope to acheive someday.

I have this plan, that someday when I finally own a house I'm going to have the biggest room made into my own personal library! The walls are going to loaded from floor to ceiling in a plethora of litterature, and art inspired by that litterature. And of course, there's going to be a large window seat with too many pillows that of looks the willow tree in my backyard. *sigh* It's going to be great. Oh yah, and hard wood floors too!

I've probably got about 400, but I've also bought and sold another 5-600 over my lifetime. I don't have that many in my to read pile, about 15. But looking at my books, I realized that I could probably re-read all of them and by the time I got done, I'd have forgotten much of what happened in the first book I read, so I could start all over again. But, I'd still rather look for new books.
It's a shame that I don't have more time to read because my office is a large pine-panelled room with hardwood floors, floor-to-ceiling built-in bookshelves, a gas-log fireplace, and a picture window looking out over my brick courtyard. There's a maple tree in the middle with two dogwoods flanking it further out in the yard and a bunch of perennials I don't know the names of blooming all summer long-currently the irises and azaleas are wearing colors although the red and yellow yarrow should be blossoming soon. Oh yeah, and there are these uplights under the dogwoods and some more lights hanging in the boughs of the maple, along with some lighting lining the courtyard. The courtward looks very ethereal in the evenings, especially in the spring and fall, when the weather is cooler.(Couldn't help teasing you Shan) :)

That sounds amazing! Maybe I will aspire to do that also. Don't know how the wife would feel about that, though... :(

Shan, come on over for a coffee, someday. You might like my house :)

(Even though, to be frank, I still have much too little room for all my books. So you'll have to excuse the piles of 'em stacked around every which where... Hmm, somehow I don't think you'll mind overmuch!

Don't think this is anything to do with any achievement on my part, though - I simply inherited most of the books I own...)
