How Big Are Your Libraries?

About 530 books on my shelfs.

About 170 books in my to-read-pile. That pile grows and I can't do anything against it! I am really trying!

Someday I have to move into a bigger apartement because of my books . . . ;)

I have lots and lots of books, college text books, classics like The Big Jump a kids book, the very first book I read by myself. Then I have my treasured GOR series collection

. Then there is my boxed set of the Lion,Which,Wardrobe series (very nice). Then with kids I have about a bizillion little books. Hey I get to count them!!!! So I would have to say I got close to 700+ books. Also Mom Homeschools which adds to the book total :D :D

I have roughly 5000 books of all subjects. If I had to narrow down to SF/Fantasy, I'd say a few hundred. I don't keep most SF or Fantasy books unless I KNOW I will re-read them.

Well my wife just went out and bought three new bookshelves about 2 months ago. Those are pretty full with stuff, lower shelves are kids books for my daughter, then our adult picture books(archetecture, cars, gardens, fish, etc) then an area of antique books, and other neat books we like to have out on display...

I'm not allowed to display my fantasy novels because I strictly and only, to the point of religously buy paper back. The better half says they look too beat up by the time I'm done with them:rolleyes: The fantasy stays in my closet; four 5ft. wide shelves each double deep with more laying on top and a few boxes on the floor...

Then I still have another 7-8 boxes back at the parents house... I'm proud to say that I live with out a 'To Read' pile. there's a few books I'll never read, but I buy-as-needed, usualy a day or two before I'm going to finish the current book.

:( sorry, I'm not going to estimate the total #.

Why'd you make me think of this? Now I'm going to start to do the math and see how many thousands of dollars I've spent on my habbit...

Call me a snob, but currently, I think I have around 30 fantasy books and I try to keep it around that level. I like to keep only the real classic books that have had some impact on me after I've read them. I have no qualms about getting rid of books, even ones that I kind-of liked. Usually, they go to the library.

Qin "Now go have a bagel!"

Will this bagel have cream cheese or butter? What kind of bagel is this supposed to be? Are there poppy seeds, or is it a cheese bagel? You really should be more descriptive.

Now what was I going to say? Oh yeah, ezchaos why do you get rid of all your books, except for those that are really good. Is this due to lack of space, or some other reason.

Thanks,

I've got to have at least 300-400 books, but I haven't counted them maybe I will sometime.

I have absolutely no idea how many books I have. At a guess, 1000+. I'm the complete opposite of Ezchaos--I never get rid of anything. There are books in every room in our apartment, unorganized, from every genre, from comics to signed hardbacks, chemistry texts to Tom Clancy.

I need a house with a separate library--floor-to-ceiling shelves would be nice.:)

I have 1614 SF/Fantasy books, about 3-400 unread.Read books are boxed up and labelled (so I can find them again - I sometimes lend them out).
Although I keep all my books, my collection is not valuable as most are paperbacks and often second hand.I'm interested in the story not how it is presented, for that reason I will read nearly any SF or Fantasy it's a good way to find unknown (to me ) authors. The other way is this forum!
And I know exactly how many books I've got because I have a programme on my pc to catalogue them -sad I know but I got fed up buying the same books again when the publishers changed the book covers.

That sounds like a good idea fortytwo. For my own future reference, what's the name of the programme you have to catalogue your books? I have a feeling I'm going to need one of those if my library keeps growing at the rate it has been lately. :)

Miriamele,
The programme I use is Book Organizer deluxe located at
www.primasoft.com
This is commercial software so it costs about $60 I think. If you don't want to pay for one I think you could find one for free on the internet.I remember seeing one a couple of years ago but can't remember the site.
42.

I counted them a couple of years ago for insurance purposes, they were about 3000. But it's grown since.

How old are some of these books I wonder? I still have the above copy of Dune, it is a bit (a lot!!!) dog eared... to tell the truth... I reluctant to even open it in case all the pages fall out.

According to my Excel spreadsheet, I have 822 books in my library, of which I've read 334. Of course, this is only what I currently have in my apartment and not the ones at my parents house (probably around 100-200), most of which I've read. Guess I've got a ways to go to catch up...if only I could stop buying more :)

My library, because of my last trip to the book store, has grown significantly. Where last week I owned twelve books, I now own fifteen. And no, I'm not lying. I never have any money (and I mean never), and get absolutely everything from the local public library unless I read it, loved it, and want a copy to lend out to people. Yay.

I don't count the books, I count the bookcases

*Shimrod counts*

Two................

I don't know exactly how many books I have and am not at home so can't count. My best guess would be 50 sf/fantasy books, with about 150 other books in our house. Many of those are part of my husband's collection (Stephen King, Dr. Who, etc.) and the rest are regular fiction/non-fiction. I haven't been able to buy any books lately and since I moved to a rural area, can't go to the big library book sales anymore. :( I miss those. Our local libraries are very small and have very few sf/f books. Of course my savior is the interlibrary loan option.

I have 178 books in my book shelf and about 20 laying around, about 70% of them are fantasy, dose AD&D handbooks count as fantasy?

I have 200 books at the moment and most of those are fantasy, perhaps 50 are horror. I only keep the ones are really want to re-read, so I think I've given away a further 100 books.

It's finding a way to keep books I have a problem with, I have 4 books shelves and have only half space left on one. So now I have to double up.
