Humans in a book itself

It would be neat to see a book about people who get trapped in a bootable online book or even a paper book. The end goal would be to get out of the book. The characters would be trapped in the reality of the book's theme. What do you think of this trope? I think it would be neat. VR is what comes to mind. However, people would be transported into the book. There have been some plots about this. Each character would have to navigate the book's environment. That would be a big challenge. Risks would be present, too. One risk is not being able to leave the book one is trapped in. Managing time would be important, too.

Tad Williams Otherlands books are similar to this; travelling in a VR world, they go to Oz and other places.
