The others I've not read any of their books before so hope I've made some good choices :)

I popped into Forbidden Planet in London today and bought:

Blade of Tyshalle by Matthew Woodring Stover
Wrapt in Crystal by Sharon Shinn.

Excellent, more books to read!

ok....You asked for it.... hehe

I have bought a few books, in different genres, in the last month or so...

Since I had heard about this book through this site, I decided to pick it up- Perdido Street Station by China Mieville!!
If anyone of you have thoughts about this book, please do not hesitate to let me know!;)

Next is one I picked up from the bargain table and I do not know much about it, but looks interesting. Anyone of you heard of- "Wheel of the Infinite" by Martha Wells??

The next book is "A Mortal Bane" by Roberta Gellis. She seems to like the medieval times, therefore this book brings medieval London to life!!

Now this one, I have never heard of...but the author Rebecca Reisert has re-imagined Macbeth, Shakespeare's classic! It's called "The Third Witch"??

The next two you will recognize....Stehpen King's "On Writing" and have heard some good talk about this one-- "The Darkness That Comes Before" by R. Scott Bakker.

The next three books are quite different but I do not know much about two of them.

The first is"legends 3" edited by Robert Silverberg. Most likely you know this one!

ok...I have never read any of George R.R. Martin...so most of you great readers out there can help me out.

"A Game of Thrones".-- Do not know anything about this..good or bad????

This last book is by Dave Duncan. I haven't read any if his works either. The book is "Sir Stalwart" - Book One of the King's Daggers. Never heard of it!

ok...as you can see any and all opinions are welcome. I have not started any of them, so no spoilers!! ;)

Looking forward to your thoughts!! Shayna

Shayna, if you look in the authors thread under George RR Martin you should find quite a lot said already about those...

Also by doing a search quite a lot about the Legends short stories. By Legends 3 do you mean Legends II (or is this another case of them splitting up the HB?)

Anyway, back to topic, Ooh ooh, I should've said that I have been bought (stretching it a little, I know... :) ):

Pandora's Star by Peter F Hamilton (space opera)
The Magician's Guild by Trudi Canavan (magic)
Dhampir by Barb & JC Hendee (vampires)
Bitten by Kelley Armstrong (werewolves - Someone thought I needed some Horror, obviously!)

and I've had arrive a copy of Scott R Bakker's The Darkness that Comes Before from the UK bookclub.

And I'm still dipping into the housebrick that is George Martin's RRetrospective...

Hobbit

As always I can count on you, Hobbit!!;)
I had forgotten about the authors thread...thanx! I will took a look!

As for "Legends 3", this book has a diverse selection of writers.

Robert Jordan relates crucial events in the years leading up to The Wheel of Time in "New Spring."

Ursula K. Le Guin adds a sequel to her famous books of Earthsea, portraying a woman who wants to learn magic, in "Dragonfly."

Tad Williams tells a dark and enthralling story of a haunted castle in the age before Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, in "The Burning Man."

and.....Terry Pratchett relates an amusing incident in Discworld, of a magical contest and the witch Granny Weatherwax, in "The Sea and Little Fishes."

It really looks good, especially the story told by Tad Williams...can't wait!!:D

Oh! side note: Hobbitt...you will probably get through The Darkness That Comes Before, before I do!! haha;)

Well, I celebrated my birthday not too long ago, and of course I recieved a few books from my parents, and recently purchased some with my own money too. The new books I have are:

"The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian" by Robert E. Howard
"A Game of Thrones" by George R.R. Martin
"Shadow of Arrarat" by Thomas Harlan
"The Brotherhood of the Wolf" by David Farland
"Rhapsody" by Elizabeth Haydon

this book has a diverse selection of writers.
Yes, it's some of the stories from the first Legends Hardback book. They did divide this up into more than one volume for the paperback editions, though I thought it was two editions, when it seems to be three! :) I did enjoy the Tad Williams. :)

Hobbit

Oooo... good topic, but you'll be sorry you got me started :) (I know I'll be sorry when my credit card bill comes in.) But here it goes....

Recently bought and already done:
Fool's Fate by Robin Hobb
Son of Avonar by Carol Berg

Bought and stacked and staring at me from the shelf:
The Belgariad by David Eddings (all parts of it)
Gormenghast by Peake
Sign for the Sacred by Storm Constantine
Dragonbone Chair by Tad Williams
The Last of the Renshai by Mickey Zucker Reichert
The Bone Doll's Twin by Lynn Flewelling
Fortress Series by C. J. Cherryh (all of them, yes)
The Game of Kings by Dorothy Dunnett

There's more, but isn't that enough?!
I would certainly appreciate someone helping me prioritize all that! My "Read Me Read Me" pile is so huge now, it's daunting. Barely know where to start.

Or, and today I bought:
The Wayfarer Redemption by Sara Douglass
- because of all the glowing recommendations I've come across here
The Fifth Ring and The Emerald Cavern by Mitchell Graham
Breeding Discontent by Wendy Darling and Bridgette Parker, which is a spin-off from Storm Constantine's Wraeththu. I'm obsessed with Storm Constantine, I admit. :)

So. I'd say I shouldn't be allowed near a bookstore again for a year or two, at least! But... that would make a liar of me. Bought and started The Burning Land by Victoria Strauss today, and tomorrow I'm buying The Last Light of the Sun by Guy Gavriel Kay. Seems like in every other city it has already been released, but I have had to wait like a good girl.... grrr!

Last Saturday there was a special sale in the bookstore for the books that have been on their shelfs for ages (usually for a good reason). So I bought:

Birds of Prey by Dave Duncan. Ancient Rome and aliens. I hope it's good. I'm planning to read it next.

Darkness Descending and Through The Darkenss by Turledove. I noticed later that neither of them was the first in the series. Oh, well. Who knows when I have the time to actually read them.

One Stargate novel. It a novelization from one of the episodes.

Four books for twelve euros. Not so bad.

Sorry, bit off topic, but kseniya, if I had that list of books to read, I would be well chuffed. I suggest the belgariad, easy and fun, then sign for the sacred - also very funny if I recall correctly, and then the Game of Kings (long, complex and utterly riveting.) Wow. I haven't bought anything as I spent far too much on books recently so I shall be visiting the library soon!

Thanks Leiali :)
Will do!

Oh, I'm feeling genuinely guilty today. Did as I said - went out and bought GGK's Last Light of the Sun. But... Well, damn my grabby hands! Also brought home Lengends II, because of all the discussion of it here. But the thing that really pushed me over the edge is that it has Robin Hobb's short novel set on the Liveship Traders' side of the world. Reading that now... and periodically sticking out my tongue at the Read Me pile. It's still glaring.

Just bought today:

Midnight Tides by Steven Erikson: w00t
The Collected Stories by Arthur Clarke (over 100 short stories by da man)
Little Big by John Crowley
Tales of the Dying Earth by Jack Vance
History of the Runestaff by Micheal Moordock.

I have out in my car, and not yet even home, several books. It was a very eclectic night for me:

Reflections of Our Past: How Human History is Revealed in Our Genes by John Relethford, HC. A non-fiction that I ordered because it was less than the other book of his that I wanted ( Genetics and the Search for Modern Human Origins ) which was $78.00

Dreaming the Eagle by Manda Scott, TP. About Boudica and the battle with the Romans.

Borrowed Flesh by Sephera Giron, PB. A horror story about a creature living on virgin blood, and then finding out it is not the baddest thing lurking in the dark.

Usurper's Crown by Sarah Zettel, PB. Book 2 in the Isvalta series, high fantasy set at court with strong eastern influences. But it turns out to be a prequel to the first book (A Sorcerer's Treason ) not the second installment of the story.

The Music of the Spheres by Elizabeth Redfern, HC. It was marked down to $4.99, and I couldn't resist. It is another historical mystery with science (I just finished An Instance of the Fingerpost), and I have heard it was very good.

She Plays With Darkness by Zakes Mda, TP. A story of South African life as told through the lives of two siblings. One lives in the city and the other in the village during changing times. The Sibling who stays in the village never ages ..

Kingdom River, by Mitchell Smith, PB. A post appocalyptic alternate history. Jupiter's orbit created global winter and the US breaks up into separate competing entities. I just found out that it is the second book in a series, so I will need to go back tomorrow and get the first book: Snowfall

I also just got an email that one of the books I have on order from the UK has arrived:

1610: Sundial in a Grave by Mary Gentle, TP. I have to go to my local non-chain store to pick it and The Separation by Christopher Priest, HC, up. It is also from the UK, and I forgot it the last time I was at the store for our discussion group.

I've made a list of authors I haven't read from the various threads, those that I think I will enjoy, and have just bought the following:

The Tower Of Fear - Glen Cook
The Last Of The Renshai - Mickey Zucker Reichert
Nine Princes of Amber - Roger Zelazny

At the same time I bought Tigana - Guy Gavriel Kay which I've been meaning to read for some time.

I buy books like some women buy shoes :D I just can't resist and have just bought :-

The Ring - Deborah Chester
The Pillars of the World - Anne Bishop
The whole Black Jewel Series (Bk 1,2,3,4) - Anne Bishop
Summon the Keeper - Tanya Huff
Shapechanger's Song - Jennifer Roberson

My to read pile is growing!
