Well, yesterday was my birthday, so my wife let me splurge and buy the hardcover of Steven Erikson's Gardens of the Moon. I've been looking forward to this one since I first heard of it in January.

Wish they had kept the cool cover art I see for the original trade paperback on Amazon, though. Why does Tor's artwork always suck?
 
Well just bought the American hardcover release of The Darkness that comes Before by Bakker. Beautiful book.

My Fantasy acquisitions this month:

*Rhymer and the Ravens by Jodie Forrest (First part of a trilogy about a Celtic Bard who enters the faerie world, in the way of Thomas the Rhymer).

*Legends II by Robert Silverberg

*Shatterpoint by Matthew Stover

*Fire bringer David Clemence-Davies

And I bought a cool SF trilogy in one volume as well, Lilith's brood by Octavia Butler, which collects her Xenogenesis trilogy.

War for the Oaks by Emma Bull
A Voyage to Arcturus by David Lindsay
Mythago Wood by Robert Holdstock (Already read it and loved it :) )
The Worm Ouroboros by E.R. Eddison
The Well at the World's End Part One by William Morris
The High House by James Stoddard

I used to have a great used book right across the street from me, but the owners were in poor health and gave it up. Now, there are no good, even mediocore used bookstores in the area. So I'm at the mercy of Borders and other outlet bookstores.*sigh! Green with envy*

The owner of this new shop is a younger guy who's actually interesting to talk to. In my experience, most of the people behind the counters at the used bookstores that I've been to look barely alive and they don't seem to read sf/fantasy. Hopefully the owner of this new store keeps his sff stock fresh.

The Secret Life by Jeff VanderMeer - in Hardcover ! I almost never buy books at full price in HC, but I have waited too long for his last 2 and had to import them from the UK. Why can't he get a mainstream publisher.

I just bought the hardcover versions of A Darkness that comes before and... gardens of the moon.

I only mention this because i already own these in paperback from canada and england but felt i should own the hardcover version.

Does anyone else look for the better copies of books their really like despite it being a waste of money?

Yeah, I just bought 5 hardcovers to replace the paperback versions of books that I love and reread constantly. Now I can reread those PB versions without too much concern on how it will treat the book.

I just picked up Tad Williams' Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series.

I've heard good things and bad things about this series. I'll judge for myself.
 
Haven't gotten out to the bookstore yet...maybe Thursday or Friday! Been too busy!!

I always go out and see if I can replace some books with better hardcovers!!

I have bought the Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R.R. Martin.
Erikson is my favourite author so I figured any author that could cause a debate over which was better deserved to be read. So far so good.

I also bought The Gunslinger by Stephen King
