I just bought Pandora's Star. I haven't read a good space opera since I was in my teens, and this looked like a whopper of one to take on.

Also just received my object of desire, The Complete Hammer's Slammers Volume 1 by David Drake, with introduction by Gene Wolfe. Signed by Drake and Wolfe and illustrator whose names escapes me at the moment, limited to 250 copies. I'll received the other two similar volumes by the year's end. The question is: I never see myself selling these, and I desperately want to read them. Should I? Or should I just stare at them on the shelf? :rolleyes:

If you find youeself getting hooked as you read this, you may want to go ahead and shell out for an order of Judas Unchained from Amazon. Mine just came in the mail this week. It's as high on the TRP as a book that size can be at the moment. Need to finish up a few more book club books, then hopfully I'll be diving into JU.

An excellent shortlist of texts on the psychology and physiology of high-stress situations and how to train to prevail in them.

So far I've flicked through the first few chapters of Grossman's 'On Combat'. Excellent reading for anyone who works in law-enforcement, the military or otherwise wants to further their understanding of the dynamics of interpersonal conflict.
