Introduce yourself and say 'Hi'. This is the thread to say 'Hello' in (v3)!

Hi:

I'm skribe. I'm more of a science-fiction than fantasy person. That's not to say that I don't like fantasy, I just feel I've read it all before. There seems to be very little that is innovative in the genre. However, I'm willing to be challenged and I'm willing to learn.

Cheers.

Howdy skribe and welcome to SFFWorld.com. I suspect you are a writer with a name like that. Come join us in the Writing forum or take a gander at our reading threads in the Fantasy and Science Fiction forums. Lots of stuff recommended there. You might even find some fantasy you'll like. :)

Yep one more Intro to read or not.

Hi all.

Long story short version. Im 50+ HS drop out in the 70's. who loves books. In the late 70's i started playing with the idea of building a world and writing the next super awesome SiFi series. Getting married in the 80's more or less destroyed that idea. (note the tear at the corner of the eye.) the 90's were kids and survival, 2000 more of the same now here in the 2010+ zone I found my old note books. And the desire has reawakened to write.

So here I sit with little hair left from trying to Write, learn to use verb tenses correctly.... kill run on sentences, work a "info dump" into a story with out putting the new generation to sleep from reading it. Add to this the general frustration of my inadequate skills and you can probably paint a good image of my sanity.

So I will dig around and see what i can learn and try to grow some skills.
thanks for a nice place to learn a bit from

Hello all! I asked people on twitter for the best places to talk about SFF and everyone recommended this place, soo... here I am. :)

I'm a Fantasy writer from London (my first book is out in February) and I'm very partial to good wine, bad movies, cartoons, mead, swords, video games where you have to make mind-cruchingly difficult decisions, and wearing socks with animal patterns on. I look forward to getting to know the community!

(I'm on twitter as @sennydreadful if anyone wants to give me a shout on there too)

Welcome, sennydreadful! Glad you found us. I don't use twitter - didn't think we were that famous... ;)

The forum comes highly recommended.

Yikes. I'm sure we'll disappoint now.

Oh, well! Check out our Writing forum when you get a chance. If you want to talk about great books, check out the Fantasy and Science Fiction forums. As a newly published author, you may find use of our Promotion Zone. I hope to catch ya around the forum. :)

Ah, thank you! That sounds great, lots of places for me to have a butcher's at :D

I really should pop in here more often! Hello, all newbies that I haven't said Hello to before! :)

I'm always surprised by the recommendations we get - but they are very nice to hear. (So 'Thank You' for those as well.)

Hello all!

I have been silently lurking in the shadows for a while now, and thought it about time that I joined this wonderful site.

More into fantasy than sci-fi, being especially keen on the works of Peake, Tolkien, Tad Williams and David Eddings.

With any luck I shall become a frequent contributor to the monthly short fiction contests.

Hi, I've just joined and wanted to say hello.

I'm female and from the UK. I like fantasy and urban fantasy, but I don't really read sci-fi. I've just started to get into epic fantasy again after a longish break, so hope I can pick up some good recommendations from knowledgeable folks. :)

Hi there forum! Name is Vasil from Bulgaria :P Well just wanted to say a big Hello to you all. It was a pain in the ass to find a nice and frendly sci-fi place with less hate and trolling as possible.

Hello, Vasil! Welcome to the site. Tell us about some cool Bulgarian sci-fi. :D

Anyway, hello Introduction Thread. I'm Troophead, which is not my real name, but an embarrassing nickname given to me by a friend, dammit. Uh... so yeah. I'm made of carbon. My favorite molecular compound is dihydrogen monoxide. You could even say I'm addicted to it.

I like dinosaurs and opera.

Howdy three times to Marlowe, Ethereal, and Troophead!

It is great to see all the new members. Please check out the various forums and jump into a conversation! :)

Hello

Hi, I'm JP. I've been a member for a few months, mostly following along with discussions, making a few posts of my own. I published my first novel last December, and I'm in the final editing stages of the sequel. It was something that I had worked on for years as a hobby, until finally it was time to take the plunge. It was nerve-wracking to finally put it out there, I got really used to being able to change characters or whole plot lines, but now that it's in print it sets rules for the sequel that I have to write around instead of deleting. But it was a cathartic experience in retrospect, and so far the science fiction community has been welcoming and curious. It's nice to have a place to discuss topics with other fans without worrying about trolls or third party pop-up ads. Thanks to the admins for all their hard work, and it's been nice meeting all of you.

LOL. Erm: sounds familiar, Troophead! :)

Welcome to all. Please don't feel intimidated and join in.

I must say how nice it is to read comments about being here because of the lack of trolling - it's what makes the job (ie: keeping the trolls away) worthwhile.
