Hello everyone!

I used to eat and breathe fantasy books when I was younger. I also used to run around this forum, gather new ideas on what to read, play around, write and practice my english. That was, what,18-20 years ago. University studies, work and other interests have kept my reading time to a minimum but this winter I've gotten in touch with reading again and I've also discovered audio books. So here I am.

Very suprised that my account was still there, but I'm looking forward to being online again and getting to know everyone.

Hi! It's been a hot minute. lol Figured I'd re-introduce myself. A lot has changed since I was last active here.

I went back to school for HR. Worked in HR for a bit, but then started doing freelance work in the tabletop gaming space while I did that. That lead me to where I am now, a Community Director in the video game industry.

Writing-wise I was writing paranormal romance for a bit, and was doing quite well, but I was writing to market while balancing a full time job and I burned out. I had to take a couple of years off to recover.

But recovered I am, and I've streamlined my life and am keeping things simple. I'm back to reading and writing.

Because of the world and the state of social media (and the fact that Discord and social media management fall under my job description), I have decided to come back to forums. I'm even debating making a neocities page and joining a webring. lol

Anyway, hi!

I'm at an indie studio and it's not out yet. Haha. But the game is called First Moon of Mercury. It's a sci-fi puzzle game with narrative elements.

I was on the social media team for World of Warcraft previously. But they laid everyone off.

Yes! I remember your screen name. I was mostly active in the writing category, and did some of the book club stuff. I think it was my interactions when we were all reading a KJ Parker book that got me the moderator status. Haha.

Just stumbled across this thread and thought I’d say hi as I am relatively new around here. Though, in many ways SFF World is a space that has been near and dear to me for many years. I used to post frequently (and even contributed some comics reviews) under a different username that was Malazan-inspired but I’ve forgotten it in the gap of years when I was away pumping out reviews on an IG account. I got burnt out on social media though and decided I just wanted to talk books with folks who like the same stuff as me and remembered this space fondly.

Its been great to see some usernames I recall from the past and to talk about books I love with folks here.

James Anthony Fitzpatrick here — writing from Johannesburg, South Africa, originally from the UK. I am working on a grounded, military‑inspired science fiction novel with a focus on squad and interpersonal dynamics, personal growth under pressure, realistic physics, and cinematic pacing. My current project follows an elite unit navigating political tension, military hierarchy, survival, and the cost of duty — all set against the backdrop of a post‑apocalyptic world.I’m looking forward to connecting with other sci‑fi writers, sharing ideas, and learning from the community.

Hello all,

I'm just another guy from the Balkans. Started writing about 5 years ago and I've mostly kept at it through thin and thin. So is life a bit anorexic in Eastern Europe. But I suppose in the good sunny days I do wake up with a "all will go well" attitude.

Completed two sci-fi projects at around 150k words each. The former took me around 3 years and its honestly a mess, but it really helped set the philosophical, technological and esoteric framework for the stories I am writing now. The latter took me the whole of last year and posted it on a personal site, painted a book cover for it, rewrote a lot of, you know, just a whole lotta thinning and fattening here and there.

Currently working on a short project that is a bit on the erotic side, the aim being that the two burglars discover mid-way that the planet they are in is not all sex-cults and fetishism. Hopefully will become a criticism on lust and sexualization, hopefully will shed a new light into the noble nature of bodies, yoga, dextrous control and whatever other interesting and pliable things hide within humanity's bones and sinews.

Anyways, it might be a better idea to explore that elsewhere. Most of what I write is a Potpourri of Eastern, Western, Jungian, Platonic, Gurdjieffic and mainly humane, grounded philosophies and experiences. Well... all of that wrapped on a sci-fi sack. I suppose there goes hard-scifi out the window.

To be honest, the projects are more or less secondary. I am excited to be in a writing forum. Stepping into another candy shop or farmer's market where the goods around are plenty and of many colours.

Hello everyone,

I’m Roland, joining from Germany. I’ve been writing and developing science fiction for several years, with a particular interest in exploration, unfamiliar worlds, human decisions under pressure and long-form worldbuilding.

I enjoy stories where the speculative idea matters, but where the characters still have to carry the consequences of it. I’m also interested in the relationship between prose and visual storytelling, and in how the same fictional world changes when it is approached as a book, an illustration or a film scene.

After spending a lot of time on faster-moving platforms, I’ve been looking for places where people still have longer conversations about books, writing and science fiction. SFFWorld seems very much like that kind of community.

I’m looking forward to discovering what everyone is reading and working on, and to joining some of the discussions here.
