Jan-Jun 2017 Novelette/Novella Contest: TANSTAAFL

I've finished as well. Apologies to those who already read the short story attempt of this story that didn't "resolve". I'm hoping this longer version is "complete" without being too tidy.

Great work, Ladies. I've loaded 'em up on my kindle and I'm gonna start reading right away.

How'd you go, HerefordEye? Did you get the extra few thousand words you needed?

I did make some minor edits before 8/midnightPST, had a bit of pronoun confusion at the beginning and couldn't decide how many storey houses were 'normal'. So apologies if you end up reading that version!

Oh, hell! My intent was to complete the contest before July 1 so the new contest would begin then. Since I am not the emperor of everything I see, I will admit to error. Contest officially closes midnight, PST, 30 June 2017.

Ack, I must admit I am tempted to take mine down now and polish up, but I gather that would be bad form. Is anyone else still writing?

As I am not one for rules, I'll quote them anyway. You can edit to your heart's content up until the deadline. You must, of course, meet the deadline.

Well, [insert all the things I'd say if I was still in Army!!!] I was sooo proud I'd made the 5,000 words I thought was the minimum, it never occurred to me to go check. To quote myself about the rules, they are the rules.

yeah I might take mine down too. I've read through it and so much of it doesn't make any sense that I left it in there... or it reads like a story summary that tells rather than shows a helluva a lot too much. Sorry to anyone who started reading a lot of that and even the title might get excised or changed.
Also I read both the other stories that are up and they're great. a few missing words in sentences here and there but aside from that I was jealous as #%&*!

No probs I'll read it again when you re-post -- if you repost after the 31st.

I probably should take advantage of this but I'm so relieved to just have it done I may let it sit until the weekend. I will look at it then.

I'm the exact same! Was such a rush to get it done, but then the relief of it being over. It definitely needs another go-over but not sure I am ready yet :D

Well now you have time to get to 7.5k.
I thank you and Luca for the kind words. My position is that I like the piece as written. It doesn't need more words although it could probably could use fewer. So, blaming my bullheaded ancestors, I'll not enter it into this competition.

I've decided not to tinker with mine. It definitely needs work but I also need the break from it, so people can read it as is and apologies for remaining typos and such! Good luck anyone else working on a story :)

Lol. Efforts.

The scummy toilet sat on the kitchen counter for weeks before anyone said anything. It was Mini that spoke up. “Is this yours?” she asked. “Mine? Why would it be mine?” “Well it’s got piss all over it don’t it?”

I'm leaving mine as well as I try to get something into the short story contest.
