Two extra special stories in this battle royale round. We wrote to @Hereford Eye 's brilliant theme "Faster" and as you'll be able to tell we both really put our backs into our efforts.

Twirl, by Facing

Paradisaic, by Luka Datas

The voting will run for 14 days and close on the 14th. Then the writer with the most popular story will choose the next topic and they will start the next round.

Comments, Criticism and enCouragement... (the three Cs) are always greatly appreciated. (You may be surprised by how much actually.)

Time's running out and we really need a tiebreaker.

Facing and I have unfortunately done the honorable thing and voted for each other's stories... darn our decency's eyes.

I'll see if I can get around to read them this evening. In all secrecy I've been writing on this too, but I never got anywhere close to finishing - when I realized I had basically taken the plot from a favorite book of mine and reskinned it. :s

coolio.

That shouldn't have been a reason to stop. Shakespeare knicked the idea... for romeo and juliet... and since then the plot has been flogged semi-constantly. You could have called it a homage.

A read would be appreciated. I will also second @Luka Datas and say that you should have posted your story anyway. The two stories may not even be a similar as you think. I'm not at all shy about having reworked a fairy tale - they all kinda follow the same format anyway.

I never posted it because I never finished it, sorry I should have made that clear.

As for voting, damn! A hard choice. I have to say though that it was Lukas’ story that drew me in mainly because of the well-realized setting and a style I enjoy. Facing rarely does anything wrong in her submitted stories so it’s purely stylistic preference this time around. That being said, you did a great job building the story world Lukas. I support the comments you have received in your thread as to other story elements but you get my vote for the setting.

I’ll endeavor to give the next contest a try.
Yes, Yoda, I *can* try

(Much later) Sorry forgot to actually register the vote.

If I could only write a novella anywhere close to what Anthony Doerr does......

Yeah well the only problem with that is I don't think I can at this point. I'm too focused on poetry and micro/flash fiction. :(
Doesn't mean I don't think about it though. :)

Many thanx, @R.J. and @kennychaffin, you guys are a pair of champeens.

Well, @Facing ... looks like we're two equally portly chaps trapped with our lunches on a see-saw... again.

Nail-biting race to the finish line.

I understand having doubts but you won't know if you don't try. If the deadline intimidates you, ignore it. Start your story outside the contest if for no other reason than to prove to yourself that you can do it. I know how much this particular author inspires you so I suspect this is something you've been thinking about for awhile.

You dragged me kicking and screaming into flash and I am glad you did. It's only fair I at least try to return the favour.:)
