January 2015 Flash Fiction Competition

Make it five!

http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?45022-Sister-Gaese-s-Yellow-Balloon

This one feels a little out there in surreal land. Hopefully it's not so bizarre that no one can even follow...

EDIT: Hmm, I forgot to put that it's a flash fiction entry into the subject line at first. I've edited it to add that, but it still shows up in the stories subforum without that listed. Should I delete the thread and re-enter it? Or is having the link in here sufficient? (I know when I created the voting thread last month, I relied mostly on which stories were labeled for the contest...)

Ahhhhh...That feels better. My previous half-dream inspired story idea blew way.

Good news is that I decided instead to expand upon my micro-fiction story of this month. Same setting, some of the same characters. Hey, 10x the words!

I'll refrain from submitting it for a day or two while I edit some more and make sure the martini I had tonight didn't balls things up too badly. But at least I've got a rough draft I'm happy with.

So look for "Green Was the Color of Her True Love's Hands"...coming to a theater near you soon!

[I do have to say, though, that trying to write a serious, thoughtful, somewhat somber story is difficult to do while your wife is watching " A Hard Day's Night" with the sound cranked up as she bops around the house doing chores. Probably should have had some Scandinavian drama on instead. ;)]

It's been awhile since I've been around, but I need to start writing again. Kinda digging the theme, but I've been reading a lot of comics lately and I can't get past Lanterns. Can't use copyrighted material or characters, so I've gotta figure something else out.

Oh No. I just realized I wrote January 2014 in the title line of my flash instead of January 2015. Maybe it's kismet but since kismet is bunkem I'm thinking I made a Boo Boo, Smokey.

I put the wrong year on several of my poems/stories already as well. :)

You're not alone. :p

I think you might be able to edit it and change the title, but I'm not certain.

Nope. I changed the thread title on the page but it hasn't changed in the stories page listing. Doesn't matter though.

Ah I see. That's what happens on many forums. Once there is a reply the listing can't be updated. :(

I'm in!

Blue Notes on The 900,012th Meeting of the CRUMP

You may not believe, but the CRUMP acronym was actually just a happy accident discovered when trying to think up a title. :D There's WAS ORIGINALLY no colour in the title because it's in the story -- I read that requirement correctly, yeah? Keyword: "or"? ;)

EDIT: But then Micah will correct me a post later, and then I will travel back in time, re-name the story to arbitrarily include a colour that is a jazz pun, and then carry on as if nothing happened....

Not according to my reading of the rule: "To keep it simple (and to prevent arguments on the lines of whether beige is a colour), pick one of the traditional colours of the rainbow and use it in or as the title of your submission."

The key word isn't "or" but "title."

Incredible powers of Observation, sir ;)

EDIT: Fixed!

EDIT AGAIN: ...fixed even though the grammar is wonky and both interpretations are possible. "Use it in" OR AS THE TITLE, vs. use it "IN OR AS" the title...?

Well, the grammar to me isn't wonky because there are no commas causing an issue. "In, or as the title, of your submission" would have allowed the original title.

However, Sally was very clear about the point in post #11 on the first page of the thread when she was asked about using black instead.

Anyway, I just didn't want someone to get dinged in the votes because of a small infraction. **thumbs up!**

I'm Back!!

After a one month Hiatus I have returned! to inflict more of my work upon you. I dont know why but I kind of "pooped" this story out. It came to me in a flash, I wrote it with care, and after giving it a once over just could not resist submitting it. 30 min, 244 words, I like it!
