July-Dec 2017 Novella/Novelette Voting Thread

We only have two entries this go around. My apologies to for not putting forth an entry of my own. I was away from writing most of last year but aim to participate in the next contest and look forward to seeing stories from many new and current members.

For those of you who will be reading and offering feedback we have two entries and you have one vote. Use it wisely.

This was a touch choice. The stories are very different and so are the writing styles. I believe A Measure of Success to be better written but the genre aspect seems almost disposable whereas in The Catherine Wheel the story falls apart without the genre elements. For this reason, The Catherine Wheel gets my vote.

a measure of success won for me... It does things I couldn't do in a million years of trying and has a real quality of otherness to it that is quite compelling

We have a winner. Congratulations to @Hereford Eye! I'm looking forward to what theme you'll present us with for the next contest/ I'm hoping that by setting myself mini monthly goals I'll be able to get an entry in next time.
