July Motivational Thread

I had to work on my panel presentation for an upcoming writer's conference so writing got done.....just not novel writing. :)

Holy cow, it's August.

Well, I got to 142,000 words last night, and I'm heading toward 143,000 at the moment. Which officially makes it the longest novel I've ever written. Still some way from being done, but hopefully it will be by the end of August.

I'm traveling for much of the month. There should be times when I can get some decent writing in, but a lot of it will be fragmented and unpredictable. That makes it difficult to plan a lot of specifics, but I'll still try:
  • Roots of Betrayal: get this revision pass through chapter 20. I think it's going well, so plan is still to get the manuscript to the publisher by the end of August.
  • Write at least one short story and plan another.
I have some other things I want to accomplish, but they're hard to articulate in goal bullet form, so I'll just go with those.

Well...traveling certainly didn't leave me much writing time. I got Roots of Betrayal through chapter 17. Not quite as far as I had hoped, but I still think I can hit my end-of-August goal on that. I did write, get peer reviews on, revise, and submit a short story for a themed anthology, and have some rough plans for the next short story I'll work on. Here's to August, when kids are in school much of the day...
