In the category of mind-bending movies that are never what you are expecting, I present “The Signal.” It starts off making you think it is a movie about hacking. Three college students are on a cross country trip, and they try to locate a hacker called Nomad that has compromised servers at MIT. They trace the location of the source of the messages that they are receiving from Nomad to the desert in New Mexico. They decide to make a little side trip to visit Nomad. That is where things begin to get weird. Then things get weirder, then they get really far out!

All in all it was a pretty enjoyable movie. It is a self-contained story with a trick ending, so I do not expect any sequels. Laurence Fishburne does a great job of being the serious face-man for this movie. The special effects are used sparingly but well. I would recommend it for some entertaining SiFi enjoyment.
