And you can only bring ONE completed fantasy series with you.

What would it be?

Most of all, WHY would you choose this one particular series?

What is it that would maintain your interest over a long period of time? Etc...
 
Wow, it's almost been a decade since this was last brought up:

Stuck on a desert island, what book do you bring?

Maybe the trilogy of trilogies by Robin Hobb Farseer, Liveship, and Tawny Man - 9 good to great books and a series I've wanted to re-read from beginning to end since I finished Fool's Fate.
 
Well, if this happened a few years in the future, I'd bring the then finished Wheel of Time series. Plenty of reading material there!

I've re-read the series at least 3 times (a few books more) and always found something new. It has, for me, stood the test of time and held my interest.

Robin Hobb's extended trilogy of trilogies is a great choice also, as would be the completed Thomas Covanent 3 series (when done)
 
Well, 9 years in intarwebs time is an eternity so it sort of is a newish idea.

What would YOU bring savs?
 
If SF also counts, it'd be the 4 Hyperion books by Dan Simmons probably.

If not, the Caine series by Matt Stover (which is complete with the end of every new book, but still counts as a series imho).

Hmmm. Id have to say the Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series. I really ate those up, and plan on reading them again soon.

I should also say, that if ASOIAF was finished, Id probably bring that as well.

As for WHY? Both those series had everything I loved about fantasy and completely mesmerized me when reading them. Why would I NOT take those?
 
Don't know yet, but if I'm going to be stuck on an Island it better be a long ass series.
 
Hmm, I'm already having second thoughts, lol. I'd like to change my choice to the Taltos series by Steven Brust.

I guess I'd suck at being stranded...
 
I'd bring the Liveship Traders trilogy and hope there were some good tidbits in them about boatbuilding-made-easy. Barring that, probably the Malazan books, since they could be read multiple times without getting stale (of course, don't cast me away until the series is complete!).
 
I'd take Thomas Covenant. Unless he ruins it with the last two volumes of the final chronicles.
 
Well, that would probably give me enough time to finally understand most of the Malazan plots...
 
Jane Lindskold's Firekeeper series.

Favorite series consiting of six books that I've probably re-read about six times. First book is my favorite, but I think it maintained a good quality overall and I've yet to get tired of them.
 
Game of thrones series, Abercrombies The First Law series and possibly the M.K Hume King Arthur series (although i haven't read it yet!) :p
 
The Lord of the Rings. How could I not bring my favourite? :)

If I wanted something longer, however, I might go with the Malazan series, or A Song of Ice and Fire (if it was finished by then).

Honestly? Heh. I'd bring a guilty pleasure. I'd bring Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series.
 
Well, I would bring a series with a lot of erotic scenes... suggestions?
 
I'd be tempted to bring the obvious - Jordan, Martin or Erikson - to keep me occupied for awhile...

...Goodkind would be an option if I was starving, dehydrated and needed to be put out of my misery

Ultimately though, I couldn't part with Riddlemaster. The world, the prose, the characters, the humanity...McKillip breaks my heart every time.
 
I'll bring something really big: Dorothy Dunnett's House of Niccolo / Lymond Chronicles [the 8+6 series are loosely connected] - i've only read the Niccolo books earlier this year, and they have good re-reading value

As an alternative I will pick the whole Discworld series by Terry Pratchett, not really because of sheer numbers, but they manage to make me laugh and think about issues at the same time.
