Looking for a book name or author.

Hoping someone will be able to help me on this one.

I've read this sci-fi trilogy some years ago, What I recall of the books is that it was similar to Shogun where you have travellers (Space travellers) encountering a new civilization (crashed landed on a planet) and in order to survive\prosper they immersed themselves (2-3 humans I think) in the alien mentality.

What I recall of the alien culture is that the author based it off Mongols and they had a hierarchy structure with Khan titles.

The aliens looked human but had somewhat catlike features.

I presume it might have been writen in the Seventies.
Would love to read them again.

I had a few books come to mind, but none of them really completely match. I'll throw them out there though- maybe someone who remembers them more clearly can help:

A Stainless Steel Rat is Born- Harry Harrison -not cat-like, but stranded on Shogun-ish planet for half of the book or so.

Icerigger- Alan Dean Foster- Protagonists crash landed on an icy planet with bat/cat-ish medieval civilization.

Pro- Gordon Dickson -A 'professional' tries to integrate with a civilization and somehow bring them to a status that they can be integrated into some sort of galactic civilization by whatever means necessary. Don't remember what the civilization was like.

I don't know how helpful that is, but thats what came to mind. Good luck.

Sounds like the Larry Niven Man-Kzin series. Many writers there, as it was a shared world.

It does not seem to fit with the mongol theme, but the Tschai/Planet of adventure books by Jack Vance have the crash-landed survivors.
