Ok, Now that i have my PC. hopefully a little more detail.
This story is 1980s or earlier i believe. Corporate Lawyers are no longer versed in law, but military tactics especially historical battles. The battles can be from any time in history. (Real earth history). When a dispute is filed a computer system randomly generates the battle and which lawyer will play which side of the battle. The battles are fought in a holographic overview of sorts. Corporations retain lawyers who are gun-fighters of sorts..

Certain battles that no matter how well one side competes the chances of winning are near impossible.

The plot is based on one of these "Gun-fighter" lawyers, who realizes the flaws in the system and battles to change the system.

It might be around the same time frame as King Davids Spaceship, i aquired the paperbacks from an old roomate at the same time.

Reminds me ofa Ben Bova short story...

...though not a novel as it sounds you're seeking. The Bova short story I have in mind is The Dueling Machine, incidentally. Lawyers! Maybe something will leak out now that you have me thinking of sf lawyers.
Its also not Barry Longyear's Infinity Hold, Kill All the Lawyers, & Keep the Law. (Books one through three, respectively. Re-released by Back In Print as Infinity Hold[SUP]3[/SUP]. The title, I imagine, was meant to be Infinity Hold Three not Infinity Hold Cubed.
Good stories just not the one you're looking for...Fair enough for the lawyers, duels, and corruption that'
s now stuck in my brain.
