I've never read a Luke Cage comic, but thought the first episode was pretty good. I loved the opening credits. I'll watch a couple more episodes later today.
What did you think?

Very well done, but not quite up to prior netflix superhero shows for me. I'm at episode 6 or 7, and I'm finding it somewhat slow, comparable to Jessica Jones before that picked up speed. There just isn't a ton of tension given that he is bulletproof, and there is no loved one to kidnap. Luke Cage's super-mellow personality doesn't really help - he doesn't get drunk and smash stuff, punch through a wall in anger or really show much of any emotion. I would also say something about the supporting characters, but I forget how to do spoiler tags.

I do really like the actor who plays Cornell, the villain. He has real charisma.

I'm on ep 3 and agree that it lacks a certain tension. Much prefer Daredevil which seems to have covered this same premise. But still enjoying it, though I find that a lot of the slang sounds really forced. It is distracting and doesn't sound authentic (but maybe it is?). I really like how the characters will have little conversations about black fiction, ball players, history, or whatever. I have talks like that all the time with my friends but of course it is about white pop culture or literature, nice to see another side.

Damn though, really wish they would move on from the reluctant hero trope. Dude is practically invincible, why is he so passive? He didn't act like that on Jessica Jones. The fight choreography is a bit underwhelming as well, feels like watching a Steven Segal film :P

I know that it'll probably pick up later, but for me (so far) Luke Cage is dull, dull & dull, with a great dollop of angst thrown in. I can accept that the plot needs to develop and the scene needs to be set, but I'm struggling to stick with this one.

I can't help feel that much of this is filling in time rather than being there for a purpose.

That was my suspicion, Av: thanks for the update.

I do wonder if it was only 8 or 10 episodes how much better it would be.

Finished it. Not a huge fan, mainly because the action scenes were sooo repetitive. "Cage gets shot, shredding yet another hoodie. Then he slaps bad guys into walls". The plot was decent, if a bit too "street level" for a guy with invulnerability and super strength. Seems like he could have ended it all in the first episode. I did like that it really stayed in Harlem. I'm struggling to think of more than 2 white male characters with lines and I don't think there was a single white female with lines.

Now I'm really interested to see where they will go with Iron Fist. Seems like he has to be a big departure from the very low key superpower take with LC and JJ. Maybe they will go wushu kung fu with it, as they seem very willing to devote themselves to a single aesthetic with these series. I hope he doesn't fight just random goons. That works for DD but was very lacking with LC. I also want a guy who can go fight bad guys and hit the bar afterwards, laughing about it all. Enough with the moody heroes!

I really really wanted to like this, but yes - dull. There's some great moments and interesting moments, but otherwise...not much happens. :(

Wow.....everyone thinks it was dull? I loved it!
Jessica Jones for me was pretty slow but Luke Cage started off strong out of the gates and stayed strong up until his brother made an appearance where it wobbled for a few episodes, then got it's balance back again.

I loved the music, characters, the back stories and the feel. Kinda reminded me of a less gritty 'The Wire'. For me Luke wasn't even the focus of the story being told.

I can understand why people think it could be a bit dull, I personnaly loved it. I think the main character is great and the performance are awesome

I loved it!
It might have benefited from a few less episodes, but I think all the Netflix marvel shows have that same problem, although the second season of daredevil mitigated that somewhat by having several major arcs running through it.
I thought Colter was excellent as Cage, and the supporting cast were great too.
It was cool to see Misty Knight in there, and Clare to have more to do than in DD or JJ.
