I have never been into fantasy. I read Lord of the Rings when I was younger, but then it ended.I went back a couple of years ago to see what the genre had to offer and was sadly dissapointed. Is there anything else that compares to Hobb or Martin?
And please don't suggest the whole A list of "high school" writers (no offense to their fans) like Jordan or Feist or Goodkind or Brooks. Action will never make for good writing. Just as it never makes for good films. Without intelligence, plot, and charecter, stories are nothing.
I'm just praying to God that there is someone else out there.
PS I have also read Kay, Williams (Tad) and Erikson, so please don't suggest them. Actually I think I got pretty lucky there as they were not as bad as the others and there were definitely moments of genius in their words, but after Hobb and Martin, even those cats pale in comparison.
Thanx.
