Mike Resnick recommendations?

His Starship series is pretty good and complete at five books.

Resnick's short fiction has won numerous awards, in fact, he holds some kind of record for the most nominations and/or wins for science fiction. Some of it is collected in this recent, stellar, collection from Pyr:

New Dreams for Old

The Kirinyaga stories are very good, my favorite of his, about attempts to recreate African tribal culture on a planet, and his novel Ivory. The Santiago book is part of his Far Future History books, which I think include a direct sequel to Santiago. He's known for his combining of SF and historical material to look at the clash of Europe and Africa, including alternate history stories. Some of his stuff is also comic SF. And then he has spacefaring stuff. So you'd have to see which of those sorts of things fit your mood.

I've never read a book of his that I did not enjoy.

I'd recomend going for Soothsayer > Oracle > Prophet next.

Once you get into his mindset, as with Santiago, then there are multiple series worth reading. I first came across him with Tales of the Galactic Midway in which The Wild Alien Tamer story is really good. And The Tales of Velvet Comet are just plain fun. The Oracle series I don't remember as being his best but I thoroughly enjoyed the Widowmaker series.

The best work outside that universe is Birthright: The Book of Man. Social evolution at its best.

If it's a Resnick story that involves Africa, Ill read it. Kirinyaga is incredible, IMHO. Ivory is really good. He's got a new one that Subterranean published set in the same universe; Kilimanjaro IIRC.
