Hello :D I'm Mike and I've been working on a sci-fi novel for quite some time now and I thought I'd share it with everyone and get a few opinions about my work. I'm still in the 'making of' process, havent got down to writing the novel yet. So, here we go...

Key Countries
In the next few posts I will describe the main political entities I have created for my novel :) First up we have the Galactic Federation :)

--Galactic Federation--

The Galactic Federation (Standard Galactic: Tultrybab Betbyre) is a political entity that takes up about 2/6 of the Milky Way galaxy. De jure, it is a democracy but de facto its a dictatorship ruled by 4 people called 'The Leaders'. The entire political system depends on what they call 'Collective Ignorism' (CI), the state in which the people are not aware or do not care about a political situation. CI is the basis of the Federal society and its what keeps the Leaders in their position. However, the Leader's existance is not known to the people within the Federation - for them they are Gods, an excuse the Leaders could use in an emergency and take swift actions publically without needing justification. Standard Galactic is an artificial language created by the Leaders as part of CI, in order to create a vast gap between the people of the Federation and the political leadership. Even if someone had not accepted CI, it would be practically impossible to understand political matters since they are in a language completely foreign to the vast majority of the population.

Standard Galactic sample:

Standard Galactic, one of the many Constructed Languages (Conlangs) I have created, was heavily influenced by Atlantean, the extremely complex Conlang created for Disney's 'Atlantis'.

Pakiltet Gee'tik on plirtak mi ulten papLetat.

Occupied Milky Way Territories:

Nova Galaxica and Calidan are two very large portions of the Milky Way that are under the occupation of the Federation. Officially the Federation doesn't accept having control over these areas and it characterizes them as 'barbaric, uncivilized places'. The truth is that the Federation gets most of its cheap labour from those areas. Slave trade is a common means in the occupied regions. The Federation's most important construction facilities, such as the planet-wide spaceship yard Sokay, are located there.

Nargothrot:

Nargothrot is located in the Andromeda Galaxy, the first human colony in a foreign galaxy. Its existance is top secret and the number of people that know it exists are less than 30. Important genetic research takes place there, such as the search for the Ultimate Elixir, a replacement for the Elixir of Life the Leaders had invented 200 years later but needs daily dosage, and also the search for a way to alter the DNA to implant the principles of Collective Ignorism into the minds of the population of the Federation and beyond.

Collective Ignorism:

Collective Ignorism is a term used to describe the situation in which a person does not have consciousness of the political reality around him. This practice is based on the fact that if man is destructed from a certain field or is given something 'better' to do, he does not care about it. Materialism was a great foundation on which to base Collective Ignorism; the aim of the poor and the middle classes (96% - slaves and outcasts not included) is to get rich and the aim of the rich is to get even richer. 95% of the wealth of the Federation is concentrated in the hands of the 4% that form the Rich and is regulated by only 4 people!

The Leaders:

The Leaders is a term used in The Scripts to describe the four people that formed (2292 AD) and are still running the Galactic Federation. Through daily dosage of the 'Elixir of Life' they have managed to cheat time and remain unchanged for 200 years, ruling their vast Empire. Initially, the four of them were men and women of science, appointed to the Naldior experiment by the Galactic Republic, in search of the Elixir of Life. When they did find the elixir, they used it in order to gain power by altering it to form a deadly disease but after months of having been on the market. They alone having the antidote in secret, the disease triguered a conflict that eventually brought down the Galactic Republic and formed the 5 countries that dominate the Milky Way at the time of the novel.

Space Travel:

In my universe, space travel is entirely different that in any other universe. In order to achieve faster-than-light travel, spaceships enter the Fourth Dimention, or alternatively Speedpace, using an SSP Drive to 'cut a hole' on our dimention and enter Speedspace. Speedspace is a weird place: looking outside the spaceship windows, you feel like you are swimming in milk - colorful milk! Thankfully, ships can reach the speed of up to 4 quintillion km/h in Speedspace, which means that it takes one day to go from one end of the galaxy to the next! Strangely enough, Speedspace is inhabitted by a kind of life, the Aerons. No one has been able to determine exactly what the aerons are, but it seems as if they are energy with consciousness, if that would ever be possible!

Date System:

The date system is as follows:

Monday » Mo
Tuesday » Tu
Wednesday » We
Thursday » Th
Friday » Fr
Saturday » Sa
Sunday » Su

Example: mo.392-11.4
Day.Year after 2072-Month.Date

For years before 2072 this formula is used: mo.2009-11.4 BVF

Thats all for now, my hand is hurting :P
Comments and Constructive Criticism are always welcome :)

This seems unnecessary to me. If only 2/6th (some call that 1/3) of the Milky Way is even under the Federation control there is no shortage of places where a secret location could be placed. Being able to travel to another galaxy is orders of magnitudes greater in technology requirements than just traveling to nearby stars. If there was not a good explanation of why humans were already in Andromeda (by the way what is wrong with the Mallagenic Clouds, they are much closer) but still not all over the Milky Way it would be a point where my willing suspension of disbelief would crash.

I was going to explain everything in due time but since you brought it up:

1. By normal means of inter-stellar travel, there is no way of traveling to another galaxy as Speedspace rules do not apply outside galaxies for reasons scientists have yet to explain. However, the Federation has indeed found a way to cross inter-galactic distances and what better place to hide something so top-secret as the genetics program than somewhere where your enemies can never even dream of going? ;) Its the ultimate hiding place ;)

2. I chose Andromeda because I liked the name :)

3. Who said humans were not already all over the milky way? Did i finish listing all the countries in the Milky way? No I didnt :) There are other 4 :)

Hello Philly_boy,

I like the world you have set up. The details are little overwhelming for me but I like the idea of the aerons and the federation's leaders. So, exactly, what is the story? Will some lone hero vanquish the leaders? If so, why? Sounds like if everyone is ignorant and doesn't care, where's the conflict? So, I guess, that's my question - what's the main conflict and how will it be resolved? Since you are really developing the world with such detail, I imagine that the conflict will be going on for hundreds of years, right? So will there be some sort of rebellion?

Hi, thanks for the comment :)

Well you will get a better idea of between whom the conflict will be when I introduce the other 4 countries, which will probably be later today :)

Key Countries: Part Two

Here is the second of five introductions to my fictional universe, so you can get a clear(er) understanding of what is going on :)

--The Colony--

The Colony is a country roughly 1/4 of the size of the Galactic Federation. It is located on the southern part of the Galaxy and it borders with Allesia, Shveyl and the Ravian Empire.

»Official Name: The Colony
»»Regions: 10
»Official Language: English
»Capital Planet: Eleutheria (Greek for 'Freedom')
»»Population: 43,000,000,000
»Capital City: Parma (on Eleutheria)
»»Population: 19,000,000
»Government: Democracy
»Currency: Coloni
»»1euro to 0,98 Coloni
»»Form: electronic
»GDP: 120,000 quadrillion Coloni
»Population: 30,000,000,000,000
»National Holochanel: CNC
»Holocode: 01
»Space League member: yes
»Current Year: 420
»»In Earth Years (EY): 2492

A Direct-ish Democracy

The political system of the Colony is exceptionally liberal - its as close as it can get to a direct democracy. Unlike the Federation, in which 1000 ambassadors represent the entire Federation, in the Colony there are two kinds of parliament: Regional Parliaments (10,000 Parliaments of the People - 1,000 representatives each) and the Council of the 1,000. Regional Parliament members are elected annually by the people, whereas the members of the Council of the 1,000 are apointed by the Regional Parliaments. The Council of the 1,000 exercises the executive branch of the government, whereas the Regional Parliaments can veto a resolution of the Council and also exercise Sovereign Power. Regional Parliaments are divided into boards and departments in order to manage the heavy workload. The Supreme Court is responsible for judicial power and the Colonial High Fleet and the Colonial Ground Forces are in charge of the military matters. In order to supervise the various Committees and Boards, there are five ministers for five corresponding fields. There is no Head of State in the colony, however the Constitution states that at times of war an elected representative or a member of the Colonial High Fleet can be appointed Chief, practically acting as a prime minister until the crisis is over, when his powers are yielded back to the Council.

{{because my computer decided it will not start EVER AGAIN, pictures and diagramms and the sort will have to wait for the time being :/ I apologize for the inconvinience!}}

Federal - Colonial Relations:

The hatred between the Galactic Federation and the Colony goes back to the First Galactic War (2189-2192). At the start of the War the Colonial and Federal forcies had allied, along with other powers, in order to bring change to the already-declining Galactic Republic. Though the Colonial forces were fighting for a just cause, the Federal Forces, led (under-cover) by the Leaders, were fighting for a very different cause: complete hegamonic domination in the Galaxy. By the end of the war, the Space League was created and all 5 newly-born countries were independent. Ever since, the relations between the Colony and the Federation have remained ice-cold, while none have embassies in eachother's territories.

Small is size, rich in Resources:

Although the Quorum of the Space League, in 2192, decided (3-2) that the Colony should be granted independence in the outer regions of the Galaxy, Shveyl (the newly-founded Kingdom) and the Colony managed to insure that the Colony get a portion of the Galaxy that was known for its natural resources as well as facilities. On that basis, the Colony built an economy strong enough to sustain itself and to insure the necessary amount of Spaceships to defend and defeat any possible (Federal) invasion.

The Colony and the Kingdom of Shveyl:

Because the capital of the Kingdom of Shveyl (Sedin) is the seat of the Space League as well as the Royal House of Schloss, which has connections with the Imperial House of Klexburg (of the Ravian Empire), as far back as the days of Gaia (Earth), it has engaged into heavy trade with the Colony. Over the years, Shveyl assisted the Colony both on the First Galactic War and with later economic problems in the Colony (and vice versa), and Shveyl has managed to earn the trust of the Colony, thus creating a mutually benefitial economic and military partnership between two small but rich countries.

And a little treat, a picture of Eleutheria I made in 3D Studio Max {{not finished but thats all I could find :/ }} before my computer broke down. :D

Thats it for tonight :) Next update: the Kingdom of Shveyl :)
