Hi all - here is your voting poll. Please take the time to read your fellow competitor's offerings and offer some praise and thoughtful crit. You can vote for two stories - why, I dont know, it just feels right and I'm making the rules! Without further ado here are our seven entries.

So I guess it's too late to enter my story that I just finished writing? It's still the 24th by my watch. Either way, my story is up for anyone who wants to read it.

Huge apology to Norm - embarassingly I posted prematurely. An awkward moment for any young writer I assure you!!!

I have added Norm's story to the game - please read and offer wisdom to him. However I cannot mod the poll as far as I know so should you feel his offering is worthy of a vote please post a comment here clearly indicating your preference and I will complete mathamatical equations heretofore thought impossible to bring you the short story contest's next hero for the ages.

I think the fault was entirely mine for posting at about eight minutes to midnight yesterday. I'll try to keep it on time from now on. It's just that sometimes I get a story idea I really like at the last minute. Glad to actually produce a finished story even though it was rushed.
 
Geez Louise - you would think I have never done this before. Slapped my forehead this morning after realizing there was no poll to go with the poll.

Good news is that Norm is on the poll now. I hate that expression that everything happens for a reason but sometimes s**t works out.

That was actually why I asked if I was too late or not the first time, I didn't see the actual poll up yet so I wasn't sure if you we're waiting to put it up later or what lol. Thought it might have just not been loading for me or something becuase I've been having a million problems with my computer.
 
Ouch my brain hurts, b/w the FF and this short I have read a whole lot of stories.

Got one vote figured out for sure but man the others are so close it is going to take some thought.

Good work gentleman. The imaginations of those that dare put a story together amaze me. Inspiring to be sure.
 
Specific comments posted in the story threads.

I voted for Finest of Details and Reaching Back. I thought these were, respectively, the most imaginative and the best executed.
 
I hope nobody minds votes from non-entrants, just discount these if you do.

Couldn't let a superb set-up like The Incident go without recognition, and the others were all excellent, but the second vote goes to Before the Trumpet Sounds for an atmospheric, detail-packed but pacy read. Sorry to the others, them's the breaks - you all wrote fantastic work here and should be proud.
 
Alright, I chipped in for The Incident and Reaching Back.

The Incident would have been my sole vote were I allowed only one. Balancing out the fact that it was the beginning of a story moreso than a complete story unto itself, it was still the cleanest, most engaging, and most entertaining to my tastes.

For the second vote I wrestled between Trumpets and Reaching. In the end I went for Reaching because of the human element of Big Brother, which I think is perhaps more in keeping with the theme compared to the jolly ol' deity.

Me too. Family stuff has gotten in the way this week (not to mention the 15 FF pieces!)... I may not finish til tonight, but I will get them done before the end of the day.
 
If you have not voted - you still can - till midnight. I set the incorrect amount of days for it to expire. Just post a comment here in this thread re: your votes and it will be added. Someone might yet break this tie - or not, hmmmm.

After much thinking, my votes go to The Finest of Details and to The Arena. I'm hard pressed to tell why, but in the end those are the ones who stayed with me.

All the stories were great, but I guess those are the ones I simply liked the most.

Sorry I didn't break the tie ;)

I at least got the reads done, and I want to put up the rest of the critiques/my thoughts later today/tonight on the threads; but wanted to throw the vote out now.

Technically, I felt FKs The Finest of Details to be the most superior, I thought Norm's Arena and Taramoc's Reaching Back to be the most gripping. (don't be offended MLS or AM, I did enjoy your pieces, also, and see their good potential with some more polish). I thought the best of both worlds, though, was Ghost's Incident.

So my two votes ultimately go to Ghost and Taramoc.

whew... I'm wiped out this morning. After seeing how JFK was really shot, hearing a monster in my head stalking me, Chinese bureaucrats reprogramming my brain and being attacked by intruders at 6am after a quiet jog with my dog, I need a nap. Big brother is exhausting.
 
According to my math that puts Ghost in the lead! I am not sure if anyone else out there is left to vote but I will give it the rest of the day.

Congratulations Mr. Ghost, the reighns are yours. An excellent entry and a well deserved win. Thanks everyone for playing and entering, and making my tenure here a big success. I think this was the highest amount of entries ever for the short story contest.

If I recall correctly, the short story contest back in May of last year had nine entries, and it was also your theme DD.

Can't wait for this month's theme, I just hope I can get my story finished earlier this time around.:)
 
I will take your word on it, what theme was that? The end of the world maybe. I also did not enter that one. I got a bad record going here of not entering my own themes. They always seem so engaging when I come up with them.
