DD asked me in a PM whether I had a larger story / world beyond the story I submitted, and no, I don't. I actually came up with the story idea while tinkering with the "Deception" flash fiction contest a few months ago, and I realized I could never hope to squeeze it into 1,000 words, and so I sat on a few paragraphs I'd written. And then, thankfully, the perfect theme came up with Big Brother.
I'm very thankful for the extension, because I wouldn't have finished the story otherwise - too busy with a kid, the holidays, and some home emergencies in December - and that would have been a shame.
And thanks for not sticking your fingers in my plot holes. The big glaring one, the one on which the twist of the story rests, is that the bad guys won't recognize that the knotted cords right in front of them might mean something. It's plausible, sure, that they wouldn't know what it meant, and I guess when it comes to bad guys, there's plenty of room between incompetent and infallible. Anyway, it was fun to write.
